It's amazing how two people that have much in common can have totally different personalities. In Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game", Rainsford, a skillful hunter, is to go through many struggles against General Zaroff, his opponent with which he shares many similarities, in order for him to win a hunting contest while proving himself to be the owner of an amazing, unbreakable personality. Through his actions during a game of hunt against a much overconfident hunter, Rainsford proves to have the traits of an honorable man.
General Zaroff says, “ you see, I read all books on hunting published in English, French, and Russian. I have but one passion in my life, Mr. Rainsford, and that is the hunt.” (pg) General Zaroff’s point is that he has devoted most of his life to hunting by reading and having such a strong passion. Essentially, General Zaroff is insanely passionate about hunting therefore he works very hard to be the best of the best.
Also, General Zaroff is an extreme hunter and doesn’t find pleasure in hunting regular animals. Zaroff says the most dangerous game is humans because they have the ability to reason. Rainsford is going to be hunted and is given a certain amount of time to survive. Moreover, while Rainsford is being hunted Zaroff

One time when General Zaroff was hunting he got hurt by an animal attack but he got him back. He is pretty tough and he is very smart. Both of them were good at hunting but both had different ways of seen hunting. Zaroff saw it as a game where you could hunt anything or anyone that was weak.
Being hunted is like day’s hours, your life only last for a short amount of time. A hunter by the name Rainsford fell overboard his yacht and was stranded on a island. Rainsford met this savage man named General Zaroff, who hunted unexpected game that Rainsford wasn’t ready for. Rainsford will not hunt again because after being hunted and chased around in the woods by a savage-like man, he knows the feeling and the terror that the animal that’s being hunted feels.
Firstly, in the story The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because on the island the only way to live is if the stranded people hunt or the stranded will in contrast become the ones being hunted. In the beginning of the story Rainsford is talking to Whitney about jaguars. Whitney is stating that the jaguars must feel some sort of feeling like fear or terror but in contrast Rainsford states that the jaguars have no understanding of feelings. Then Rainsford is put on a island where he symbolically represents the jaguar and General Zaroff would symbolically represent the hunter.

In “The most dangerous game” written by, Richard Connell, he uses many devices such as: characterization, plot structure and theme to contribute to the overall meaning of the story.
