“Eat my shit.” This quote is an example of revenge that may have gone a little too far.. Revenge is a common theme in The Help with many main characteristics partaking in getting revenge. Even helping Skeeter write The Help was an act of revenge by the maids against the wives of Jackson who mistreated them. Most people seek revenge for closure against someone who committed a wrong, but in reality revenge usually just adds to the bitterness between two people. In The Help revenge is the fuel that escalates the segregation issue in Jackson and leads to Skeeter writing The Help. Even though many people sought revenge against Hilly, Hilly exacted her own revenge on Celia by ostracizing her from all of the other women in Jackson. Hilly still holds a grudge towards Celia for marrying Johnny while she still has feelings for him. She doesn't allow anyone in the town to be friends with Celia. This …show more content…

The hostility greatly increases between the maids and the women of the town after this incident. Miss Walters has been pushed around by Hilly even through she is her mother. The bid that Miss Walters placed on the pie at the Benefit is just perfect. By placing the bid, she reminded her daughter of eating Minny’s “special ingredient”. However she did so in a way that would not be apparent to anyone who did not know the story. Miss Walters was angry with her daughter for placing her in a retirement home, and this was a clever way to remind her that Miss Walters knew her darkest secret. After this, Miss Walters was much more content with being shoved into the retirement home and was

The constitution states that “All men are created equal”, but in the 1960s, that phrase was overlooked. “The Help”’s setting was placed in Jackson, Mississippi, 1960s. The norms at the time was that every white “rich” families will have their own black maid. Black people were treated like objects and were “inferior” to white people, but there were people who thought differently and wants to treat African Americans like friends. In the novel, it was put in three different point of views, Aibileen, MInny and Miss Skeeter.
Mrs. Lovett is one of the major characters in Sweeney Todd. Her objective is to run her meat pie shop to survive. Also, she loves and has always loved Benjamin Barker (Sweeney Todd). Once she encounters him again in her shop, she is willing to do anything just to have Sweeney’s satisfaction with her. She gives him his box with the razors and tells him that she hid them for him.
Minny Jackson is a black maid in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a great representative of good and bad behavior because she is well rounded as a character. Minny is a well rounded character because she helps Celia out around her house aside from the fact that Celia can be stubborn, cares a lot towards her kids and helps Skeeter convince other maids to help out with the book. “The room clears out, except for Minny. She stands in the far corner, arms clamped across her chest.
A hero in Korean culture is the person who presents himself capable of meeting the society’s needs and display promising results; a hero who has the physical qualities that express them worthy. In the novel, Our Twisted Hero by Yi Munyol, the character Han Pyongt’ae finds himself struggling with the corrupt system at his new school. When Han first meets Om Sokdae, the class monitor, he does not know what huge authority he claims to have. It takes Han a while to fully grasp Sokdae’s abilities and what he is capable of controlling. The Help (2012), as directed by Tate Taylor, is a story of African American servants in 1960’s Jackson, Mississippi and their feelings towards the people they worked for. The film is narrated by the convincing housemaid Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) and follows the story of a hometown writer Eugenia 'Skeeter' Phelan (Emma Stone) and the roles they both play in a publishing a truth-be-told testimony about the treatment of African-Americans in Jackson. Aibileen Clark does a good job showing both sides of the civil rights debate, however, she lacks a certain amount of detail when it comes to the whites views, especially the white husbands. The story is naturally biased towards the housemaids but this does not necessarily take away from the plot of the story. Throughout the film, the maids are portrayed as the underdogs and this plays into the final conclusions very well.
“Bad Blood”, by Will Weaver, is a short story about a teenager named Jared. Jared is from a family of thieves and con artists. His family has now settled in a rustic Ohio town where people still leave their house and car windows open. Jared meets an elderly woman by the name of Mrs. Anderson, whose lawn he soon mows under the claim of “Boy Scout Service”. However, his real intentions are to manipulate her and steal her money and possessions.
Edmond’s journey seeking revenge has taught the readers that only those who have felt the deepest of misery know the feeling of true happiness. “There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness. We must have felt what it is to die, Morrel, that we may appreciate the enjoyments of life” (Dumas 214). This quote infers that because Edmond Dantes spent 14 years in “hell” he is now able to enjoy happiness in a deeper way than those who have not felt the anguish of Chateau D’if.
The Help is set in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960s. Skeeter, a southern society girl, interviews the black women who have spent their lives being servants for wealthy white Southern families. There are various scenes throughout the film that show social stratification, racial inequalities, gender inequalities, and class inequalities. Massey’s Social Stratification Theory states that humans allocate people to different categories. These categories often lead to inequality which is implemented socially.
In Steven King’s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, strong examples of injustice are seen throughout. Injustice is strongly displayed by the wardens, especially Warden Norton. The reader gets a sense of his hypocrisy, but it is not the focus of his character. In the film adaptation of this book, Frank Darabont changed the number of wardens, his and Andy’s first meeting, the nature of Tommy’s departure from the prison, and the existence of the fake identity Randall Stevens. All of these changes served to fully expose Norton’s character, creating a stronger theme of hypocrisy in the prison system Andy rebels against.
During the Elizabethan times, citizens were governed by conscience and justice. Sins were punished by divine justice, and past vendettas were not forgiven or forgotten. Therefore, Shakespeare highlights vengeance and punishment as the prevalent themes in the play, King Richard III. None of the characters are innocent in the War of the Roses, and Shakespeare plans to deliver them to justice. As one who has suffered the fall of power, Queen Margaret symbolizes consequence, or repercussion.
One lesson that I learned from the book The Help is to treat others the way that you would want to be treated. In the story Hilly is very snobby and disrespectful towards people with colored skin. Later in the story Hilly gets what she deserves. Minny puts a special ingredient in one of her chocolates pies, poop. One lesson is to fight for what you believe is right no matter what the price you pay.
