Literary Critique The Hobbit is a book made by J.R.R TOLKIEN and published in 1980.What happens in this book is the main character Bilbo Baggins a hobbit goes on a very dangerous mission with one wizard named Gandalf and thirteen dwarves.Their destination is a mountain full of dwarf mined gold with a dragon in it.I thought the book was pretty good very well described in detail, but overall it was a good book. My favorite character in the story was Gollum, he is a psycho troll like creature that loves one thing in the world “his precious aka his ring” and I find that really funny. When Gollum found Bilbo in the cave they played the ancient game of riddles for Bilbo's life or the way out of the cave for Bilbo.Bilbo had found Gollum's ring earlier in the story and he had his ring.Bilbo had basically lost so he tricked Gollum and instead of saying a riddle he asked him what's in my pocket and he guessed wrong.Bilbo put on the ring and it made him invisible. So Gollum was gonna take him out of the cave and kill him but he couldn't find his ring so he knew bilbo stole it and he went after him because he thought he had escaped but he really showed him the way out.
This causes conflict for Bilbo because the ring is magical and typically helps the person who's wearing it and if it is taken from him he will no longer have that help. When Bilbo refuses to give Gollum the ring, Gollum threatens to kill Bilbo. Bilbo manages to escape Gollum thanks to his wit and riddles, but Gollum caused a bump in the road of
Bilbo did this because he got lost in the goblin’s lair in the mountain. The deal was that if Gollum won then he could eat Bilbo, but if Bilbo won then Gollum had to show Bilbo the way out. This is an extremely Tookish and venturesome undertaking because if Bilbo were to simply say the wrong word he would be eaten. Furthermore, the above all fact that he even went on this quest at all is astoundingly Tookish of Bilbo.
Bilbo’s third trial is finding a way for the dwarves to escape the wood-elves palace. When the guard is drunk, Bilbo lets the dwarves out by stealing the keys and pushing the dwarves into barrels. After a hero’s many trials, they face their ultimate enemy, and for Bilbo that is Smaug, the dragon. Smaug shares qualities from the other does Bilbo faced, but with more powers and fearsomeness. Facing many new enemies in his trials, they all leave Bilbo something in return for defeating them such as the knowledge that no adventurer will be left behind, courage and respect from the dwarves as he helped set them free when all hope seemed to be lost, confidence and willingness to fight and lastly, the knowledge that while his friends can protect him, he can protect his friends.
Bilbo Baggins the Burglar Thesis: In the book The Hobbit, the character Bilbo Baggins is a middle class hobbit who must challenged his introverted nature to help the dwarves reclaim their land. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit, who lives in his hobbit hole. Hobbits are generally short and fat introverted people who don’t leave their house much. Bilbo Baggins was living like that, until one day, thirteen dwarves and his old wizard friend(Gandalf) enter his house and start eating and talking like it was their house.

And when Bilbo escaped Gollum’s cave with the ring of power “It’s got to ask uss a question, my preciouss, yes, yess, yess. Jusst one more question to guess, yes, yess. ”says Gollum in the riddle game in J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Bilbo sacrificed himself to slay the spiders to save the dwarves from getting eaten.
Bilbo’s unconventional heroism challenges traditional hero archetypes by perceiving as an ordinary and unadventerous hobbit while also reinforcing the archetype with selflessness and emphasizing empathy over physical strength. Bilbo’s character challenges the traditional archetype of the hero by presenting Bilbo as an unlikely protagonist while Odysseus

After Bilbo crosses the first threshold with help from Gandalf, he finds himself in the ‘belly of the whale’ with
Intellectual growth occurs when Bilbo is accidently left behind by Gandalf and the dwarves after they battle with a horde of goblins. Inside the mountain, Bilbo stumbles upon the One Ring, who then keeps it in his pocket. After some time, Bilbo runs into Gollum who challenges him to a game of riddles. Legend has it that Professor John Ronald Reuel Tolkien of the University of Oxford was at his desk one summer 's day in 1930 wearily correcting examination papers when he came upon a page in an answer-book that was left blank. " In a hole in the ground," he wrote on the page, "there lived a hobbit." At the time, he had no idea what a hobbit was, much less why it would live in a hole in the ground- but he had to find out.
