The House on Mango Street consists of many short stories that explain the life of a young girl named Esperanza. It also explains her living situation; poverty in a crime riddance neighborhood. In addition, she also states the various obstacles that she has to overcome in her everyday life, such as wearing cheap clothes, eating the lunches her mom makes, living in her home, etc. Reading the book once without looking at it through an analytical perspective the book may seem two-dimensional and flat. While Cisneros’ stories may be short, after re-reading it to get a deeper understanding as to what she really means, the significance of the text becomes even more visible, and the interpretations become increasingly powerful. Cisneros uses metaphors, smilies, personifications, and foreshadowing to explain her emotions throughout the text.

Human nature like Lincoln said cannot be changed but it can change in specific situations, sometimes badly or sometimes greatly. In the show “The Twilight Zone” there is an episode that analyzes how humans react to paranoia and scapegoats but this analyzation was disguised with fiction. The story was that a flash of light appears and the power goes out, a boy suspects that it was aliens and that someone is an alien in the town which at first the town doesn’t believe but soon with paranoia leaping in they go against each other. It is revealed that there was no alien in the town, the only aliens were the ones who turned off the power the rest was the human imagination. Their behavior changes with the paranoia and the groups which could be said for many, people’s behavior changes in a group by being more aggressive to specific person as shown in the episode.

Some people say peaceful resistance is to keep the government in check. Civil disobedience can change the society and raise awareness to disparities. Peaceful resistance is very productive to uphold a free society. From Rosa Parks to Martin Luther King Jr. there was a lot of civil disobedience acts that turned out to be for the better. There has been thousands of people that has changed or impacted the society using peaceful resistance.

On a foggy day in the creepy town of Charleston, Illinois, Shaniqua was born to her parents Shawn and Iqua. She had the most beautiful long, brown, wavy hair with perfect green eyes. As Iqua was taking her out of the car, she tripped over what she thought was a stone and dropped Shaniqua down the well in the front yard. When Shaniqua got to the bottom of the well, she was greeted some friendly rats who called the well home and they welcomed her with a feast of dead fish and trash bags. They were acting like a bunch if monkeys and it was driving Shaniqua crazy. It was then she realized that she needed to gain control over the rats and become the rat princess.
