“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins is a suspenseful and frightening story about a 16 year old girl, Katniss everdeen who is born into a small village called District 12. The capitol, which controls the districts hosts an annual Hunger Games each and every year. Two tributes, a boy and a girl from each district are chosen between the ages of 12-18 to compete against 22 other tributes, but only one can win. Katniss is not chosen, but her younger sister Prim is chosen at only 12 years old. Katniss volunteers in Prim 's place and is now in the hunger games.
We use it in a myriad of foods and recipes and we use it as a source of our energy for the day. Used for generations in thousands of years, we eat bread to come together in our lives. “Americans still consumed about 30 percent of their calories in the form of bread.” (Morano 1) So I leave you with this: I’ve never seen a food that brought people together like bread, we eat it in almost everything, and that’s why I picked this topic; bread is so fascinating, it is in a myriad of things in our life, and nothing can ever truly compare to a perfect freshly baked loaf of
“To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed” (Collins, 33) The action of Peeta giving Katniss the bread, and the fact that it made Katniss remember she is not doomed, shows how important food is. Her family was on the cusp of starvation, but because they were given food, they survived through it. “But I’m stuffing myself because I’ve never had food like this, so good and so much, and because probably the best thing I can do between now and the Games is put on a few pounds”(Collins, 45). For starters, the fact that Katniss has never had so much food says a lot about how life in Panem can be. This also supports the fact that Katniss’s family usually was on the cusp of starvation.

Today we find out that twenty of us that will leave our families behind for the next two decades. This was a time when men went to work and fought in wars while the women sat back and did the housework , so that’s what the Hitler Youth taught the children to do. Hitler Youth consisted of 10 to 18 year old children(“Hitler Youth Movement - History Learning Site”,2015). There were two separate youth groups for boys and girls; Boys trained to be future nazi soldiers and fight in the war, while girls were prepared for future motherhood(“Hitler Youth Movement - History Learning Site”,2015). At ten years boys would go into the German Young People. Then they would progress into the Hitler Youth when they turned 13.

She only needs one reference to Harry Potter and then everyone knows who she is. She uses a lot of energy on humor in the first part. Maybe because she is nervous, which she indicates that she is with “But the weeks of fear and nausea I have endured at the thought of giving this commencement address have made me lose weight. A win-win situation!” (Page 1, column 1, line 7-10) maybe she wants to get rid of her nervousness or perhaps she just wants a bond with the audience before talking more serious.
Two participants, one boy and one girl, between the ages of 12 and 18, are annually selected from each the district to fight in the Hunger Games. When Katniss Everdeen’s younger sister is initially selected as one of the participants, Katniss volunteers to aid instead of her. Right from the opening scene of the film, Katniss is portrayed as the man of the house. She is confident, with a clear opinion. She is the protector of the family and fulfills this role till the extent to endangering her own life – just like a man, the protector and provider of a traditional household.

"We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal.” Such statement, spoken by Captain Beatty from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury on page fifty-eight, contradicts the true meaning of equality and happiness. There is nothing threatening about being different, but equality should be used as a state to place order and discipline the miscreant, not to control the people’s personality. In Sandtopia every individual is praised for the uniqueness and the knowledge they hold.
