IPO Model The IPO Model is a model which is broken up into three phases, the input, the processor and the output. This model is widely used by companies and educational faculties with the intention for describing and designing the structure of an information processing program. It is an efficient and the most basic structure for describing and designing a process hence why it is used in most introductory programs. IPO Model Examples Input: An input can be a set amount of data or a certain device through which information enters a system. It accepts the data as an input and processes it to provide the user with an output, such as valuable information or a physical action. A computer accepts data and instructions at the input stage. The user using a keyboard and typing onto the computer provides it with data assisting the process of the computer with set instructions to follow. Data and instructions then get processed by the central processing unit (CPU). A CPU acts like the computers brain that can change data or information from any input device into information that is useful to the user. Though the CPU can only operate by following instructions. Therefore the input must give the computer specific instruction otherwise it will not process the information correctly. The computer then outputs the results of the processed data to the user. The data gets changed into information that the user can both view and read. The information can be retrieved in multiple forms such as on a display monitor or on a piece of paper outputted by a printer. They can also be used for internal intranets that allow different types of computers to share certain information internally. Companies use geographically dispersed servers, which can be used through cloud computing. Cloud computing is a process in which a computer assesses data and software that can be stored on remote servers, this type of process is used by companies such as Apple.
