Perhaps life’s most important milestone is graduation from high school, an event, which for many, ushers in young adulthood. As a pre-medical student, high school graduation merely marked a new beginning for me, and another chance to prove myself academically. Each student views his or her high school years in a different way, and it is from this opinion that one’s future is modeled. I grew up with the belief that obstacles can, and are meant to be overcome, and the skills one acquires create character. Personally, I have had to deal with hearing loss, and my parents’ divorce, yet, throughout times of difficulty, I have persevered. Just as my personal life has presented an array of challenges, so too will my education, inevitably, following my high school days. The completion of high school was a turning point in my life as it fulfilled a meaningful milestone, while paving the way to a successful future. Just as my freshman year presented new challenges to overcome, I was unsure what to expect of my college years. Going into my senior year, two things were on my mind predominantly; high school graduation and college applications. However, for much of the first half of that year, I was unsure of the college or university in which I wished to matriculate. I saw that many of my classmates went on to attend smaller schools back home, and I feared that college would be a repeat of high school. As graduation drew nearer, I became more reassured of the fact that I was able to accomplish the many things I set out to do. When graduation day, June fourteenth, finally came and went, all of my worries were eclipsed by the relief of completing one of life’s challenges.
