The title of our assignment for the subject Building Services and Equipment is all about acoustic. The definition of acoustic is the total effect of sound, especially as produced in an enclosed space. In fact, acoustics is derived from Greek word "akouein" which means ‘to hear’, and it is the branch of science that deals with sound, including its generation, transmission, analysis and perception. Generally, acoustics is usually broadly defined as “the science of sound”. Furthermore, sound may also be defined as vibration that travels through the air or pressure changes in an ‘elastic’ medium which are capable to be heard when they reach a person 's ear. Sound is a variation in pressure. For example, a vibrating object will produce a sequence …show more content…
The arrangement of different functions within the building and the appropriate acoustic design of construction and components are the essential aspects here to fulfill different need. The expression ‘good acoustics’ is mostly associated with concert halls, opera houses and theatres. That is no doubt that good acoustics is vital for such venues. And in rooms for musical performance or rehearsal, acoustics that are too live or too dull are both undesirable. Conversely, a ‘good acoustics’ is not necessary in an area which has to be comfort such as living room, shopping complex, library, and bedroom and so on. For example, a library, a place which generally provide the most comfortable physical environment for students in order to make a conducive to their study while doing their revision, discussion or research at library, the university will be more emphasize on require a good sound insulation or even a better sound absorption material to reduce the sound level rather than "good acoustics ' to ensure the environment of library as quietly as possible such as the need to control potential noise from the busy public plaza
M3 M3: Make and support valid decisions relating to the specification of materials for a tutor provided application Introduction By using the materials identified in P6 I can decide on which material is best suited for a foundation, building frame, guttering, external cladding of walls and wall insulation by looking at each materials properties and performance. This will help decide on which material is best suited for each component of the building as we will be able to find which material is the strongest and long-lasting for the foundation and which is best at stopping heat transfer for the wall insulation. For a construction project to be successful the right material needs to be used for each component in the building to ensure that the
The book Sounder by William H. Armstrong states “ ‘Poor creature. Poor creature,’ said the mother and turned away to get him some food,” reveals a change in her attitude toward Sounder. The night Sounder whimpered and eagerly pawed at the door, he had many gashes, broken bones and had a skeleton like body. The mother’s heart ached for this poor creature. As fast as she could, the mother grabbed sounder and pulled him into the warm, fire burning cabin.
In Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy and Nathan Whitaker, we learn how important respect is to him, in football and life. Tony treats everyone he interacts with respect. When he was a player he respected his coach’s decisions, even if he was upset and did not agree with the decision. We saw that when he got traded from the Steelers to the 49ers. He didn’t like it, but he still respected the coach’s decisions and did not take any anger out on them.
Who knew architecture and acoustics could bring me closer to
The Awakening by Kate Chopin ends with the protagonist reliving old memories and eventually entering the ocean to drown herself. However, this ending does not feel like an ending for this character, instead it feels like a new beginning of awakening. This effect happens through the use of indicative diction, symbolic imagery, and alluring sound. This ending is seen as a new beginning or awakening for the protagonist through indicative diction. The protagonist claims that her children were like “antagonists,” plotting against her and put her in “soul’s slavery.”
EVAS, he experiences irregular shifts in his hearing ability so monitoring his audiogram is vital for effective communication, so one service that needs to be added is regular audiological evaluations when a change in hearing is suspected or at least monthly. The acoustics of classrooms and other learning environments can significantly alter how Sam has access to spoken language. So the audiological evaluations need to include at minimum an aided audiogram and evaluation of personal amplification (hearing aides) and educational modification (FM unit). My preference for this type of evaluation is for an ASHA certified Educational Audiologist. This should be completed whenever there is a documented change in hearing or any changes in seating
“It’s hard to reset a plant if it’s wilted too much; the life has gone out of it. But... I see new leaves startin’.” This quote from the teacher in Sounder, the novel by William H. Armstrong, is a metaphor for the universal theme that life will continue despite pain, suffering, and loss. The boy from Sounder as well as George Gibbs and Mrs. Webb from Thornton Wilder’s Our Town survive the deep sorrow of losing loved ones.
The mechanical vibrations transmitted through a medium; solid, liquid or a gas generates a sound wave. The sound is an energy, which deflects the particles of a medium in the same direction, and itself travel as a longitudinal waveform with areas of compression and rarefactions. The image generated by ultrasound is essentially based on similar principle by means of a machine, which includes an ultrasound transducer and a screen. The transducer contains a piezoelectric crystal made up of lead zirconite, which generates an ultrasound beam on applying an electrical current to the transducer. These signals travel through a medium in the body and after striking with various tissues, return back to the transducer.
On each of these signals it is fitted, in red, an harmonic pulsating pressure:
Just imagine, life with no sound. Weird right! Sounds are the little noises heard at night and during the day. They are minuscule.
In Rasmussen’s Experiencing Architecture, the author differentiates architecture from sculpture through utility. Therefore, the eye-catching curvilinear shapes of the hall’s exterior are more than bizarre geometric shapes. Surrounded by an urban setting, the concert hall’s undulating contours invigorates the cultural atmosphere of downtown Los Angeles. Spectators feel free to creatively interpret its ambiguous and novel shapes; whether the curves represent the crashes and clashes of orchestra or the frenzied hand gestures of the conductor, the concert hall ultimately reshapes the cultural landscape of LA as a unique architectural statement. Additionally, the materials used to construct the hall are stainless steel panels that hover above an asymmetrical band of glazing at the building’s base.
U1 AC 2.1 - Explain ways to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. A number of ways to establish a safe and supportive learning environment is to stay within what is deemed as conventional rules and disciplines. A typical class room layout is rows of desks and chairs facing the front, it is the usual expected layout for learners and encourages them to accept conformity, something as simple as sitting on the chairs facing the front of the classroom is reassuring to the majority that the class is safe. In days of yesteryear the students would be expected to stand up when the teacher entered the room and wait for permission to be seated, thankfully those days are in the distant past and now it is acceptable to remain talking until the teacher is ready to begin class.
The purpose of this lab was to observe the phenomenon of resonance in an open ended cylindrical tube and use resonance to determine the velocity of sound in air at regular temperatures. A hypothesis for this lab was that if the frequency of the tuning fork increased, then the length of the tube to achieve resonance will increase because of the high amplitude of the vibration. The resonance of the open-closed tube was found through these steps. First, the tube was filled with water with an inner tube inside the outer tube. The water temperature was measured.
Gottfried Semper was a major figure in the field of Interior designing. He was an architect and an art critic who contributed majorly to the study of interiors .He proposed his ideas and thoughts in his book, “Four elements of architecture”, in the year 1952 and it was a huge success. In his book, he developed the theory that origin of architecture could be dated back to the primitive era when human civilization was at its peak. As compared to the modern ideology that architecture consists of structures made from materials, his theory revolved around the four main elements of the primitive era that were essential to human life.
In the architectural realm these nonvisual experiences become important in how our space is perceived, how it makes people feel and even perform. The scale of architecture in relation to the person, the sensation a hand feels while touching a handrail, or the sound a person makes on the building as they walk: all of these
