Art is seen as a creative activity, an expression of human creative skill and imagination in a visual form for an audience. Anything can be art – for an example; Marcel Duchamp’s urinal, Piero Manzonia’s poop in a can, Damien Hirst’s dead animals floating in large tanks of formaldehyde. It has made the definition of art questionable; as to why can’t an ordinary urinal be considered as art too. It contains no rules and allows people to connect in different ways because it’s interpreted differently. Art has no process that can be replicated across the board to achieve an optimal result and Art is considered a mode of expression.

In contrary, what is design? Design is functional and yet it is also about problem solving, hence Design encompasses not just the visual appearance of a thing, but the intent behind it and the experience of being exposed to it. The fundamental purpose of design is to communicate a message and motivate the viewer to do something. These qualities are what make design such an important medium through which to how we can explore our world.
