The Importance Of Being In 4-W

One of my biggest roles I have played during my high school career was being a DECA Vice President. This position I took on Vice President of Communications. Being V.P. of Communication was something so special to me because the previous DECA officers felt that I would be one to fulfill the duties of V.P. of communications. The impact this made of my life was very heavy because I learned a lot and gained a deeper love for DECA. I have learned how to communicate with others more, manage time wisely, and plan accordingly. This experience helped me more about being the head of an organization. Being about of this club is very beneficial because it is basic preparation of becoming a leader. Through the years, 4-H has had a great impact on my life. Without 4-H I would not be the person I am today if I had not been involved with 4-H at such a young age. During my years of participation in 4-H I have received many life skills that have greatly impacted my life. Some of the skills that I have gained include but are not limited to leadership skills, public speaking skills, and responsibility skills. However, I have also gained many life experiences that some many never have, I have participated in the Ross County Queens’ Contest, went to 4-H camps during the summer, and have had the opportunity to raise and show hogs at the county fair. Have you ever been a part of something that made you feel special and accepted? Did you look forward to going to meetings to see what your next fun adventure with the group would be? You may not realize it at the time, but these groups or clubs are teaching you a variety of skills and lessons, that you’ll continue to use throughout your life. I believe that the FFA organization is the best group to be a part of. Not only do you learn so many helpful skills, but it goes above and beyond teaching the agricultural ways of our country through contests, social events, and even giving awards and scholarships!

Color guard is extremely special and important to me. Many ask, “what is color guard?” “What do you guys even do?” When an audience watches a performance, what most people see is a bunch of people jumping and dancing across a football field, in strange costumes with flags and weapons in their hands, to marching band music. It may seem a bit ridiculous and whimsical to someone that has never been to a marching band competition. To me, however, it is one of the most amazing experiences. The rush of adrenaline and the whirl of emotions that come with performing in marching band and color guard shows is ineffable. National Honor Society is a great opportunity for everyone including myself. It has standards such as scholarship, leadership, character, and service. To maintain the standards I already have most of the standards I am a smart student with a 4.0 GPA, I have great leadership and character. The only thing missing is service. I do, do service but not as much. I don’t have many opportunities to help out and volunteer. Maybe joining NJHS can help fulfill that opportunity.

Special Olympics allowed me to get involved with many events such as Cop On Top and the Torch Run. I loved this program, because it allowed me to get out there in my community and help give people with mental and/ or physical disabilities, live out there dream. From being a unified partner with their bowling team, to being a unified runner on their Track and field team, to just giving my time as a volunteer helping with the events logistics, it is one program, I am glad i'm affiliated

Cesar Chavez has inspirational core values to accept all people, celebrate the community, respect life and the environment, non-violence, innovation, preference to help the most needy, knowledge, sacrifice, service to others, and determination. His first core value to accept all people, I was raised to not judge people based on their race or religion. Being raised this way has made me curious about other peoples backgrounds and cultures. Therefore, during my years in college I would like to spend a semester abroad in order to incorporate myself in another culture and learn as much as possible.

I want to be part of the SHS board of officers because not only do I take pride and jubilance from my spanish heritage and background, but I work arduously to be a salient member of anything I am a part of. I want to learn from others and gain more responsibility to ensure me a more auspicious future. I believe that by being in such an honorable society and as an officer, I can impact my peers as well as gain knowledge from others and their different cultures. As a current member of the Spanish Honor Society, I have already left a mark, by being published in the March edition of Albricias for a drawing.

Being members of different clubs has given me eye-opening experiences that I wouldn't get anywhere else, and for this reason, I appreciate these clubs so much. Whether I was going on a backpacking trip to Harriman State Park with the Explorers club, learning to dance the Bachata in Spanish club or writing speeches in the National Honor Society. Each club brought a little new different aspect to my life and these clubs really helped me with my goals. It is a great honor to be considered for acceptance into the F.A. Verplanck Chapter of the National Honor Society. Being apart of this means more than just having outstanding grades. Even though it is an important factor, aspects like leadership, community, and character is also what shapes this organization and the people in it to be a well rounded individual. I feel as if I possess all of these characteristics and I will make me positive contribution into the National Honors Society.

I started attending Fork Union Military Academy in the sixth grade and have stayed throughout my entire high school career. To me, this in itself is a large accomplishment and is something I am very proud of. In the course of the year, due to the Peer Leadership program, I feel much more motivated. At the beginning, I was insecure and unable to carry out the responsibilities successfully. Many times I found myself out of place and expressing myself was a challenge since I did not feel confident. But I have been able to feel part of a group for the first time in a class at school. I can share with other peers and unwind more easily in front of them and out of class as well. It has impacted me in a great way in skills such as optimism, confidence, creativity, commitment in each assignment, among other benefits.
