Introduction:

The significance of education cannot be doubted. It is a valuable weapon to earn in one’s life. “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”(Albert Einstein). It is greatly essential to develop the most convenient setting in an educational space to make the effective medium for the learners to be comfortable, willing to learn and willing to come to school. The classroom can be considered as the most important part of the school as the students spend most of their times in this space. Through research, studies have confirmed that the spatial design of the learning space directly relates to students’ performance and learning outcomes. The interior designer also responsible for creating an atmosphere that encourages students to learn, pay attention, enjoy learning and to feel belonging to their classroom. The physical environment of a classroom includes size of room, class layout, types of furniture, equipment, materials and finishes. Designing (as opposed to decorating) the classroom environment is both an art and a science (Roskos and Neuman, 2011). Thus, The interior designer must study the function of the space and the users of it, before started to think about materialsand colors. Understanding the users’ needs is a significant step in the design process when designing a classroom. This study aims to investigate how the physical environment of the classroom affects students’ learning and performance. Although the relationship between the built environment and students’ learning outcomes are crucial, there has been little about this topic directly to the interior design profession. Creating flexible classrooms imply that designing spaces with proportions to accommodate a variety of academic functions (Lei ,2010).
Flexibility can create a classroom that supports a variety of teaching methods which can improve the quality of the academic content, and help the teacher to provide new and creative ideas for students. When there is no flexibility teacher is locked into one particular teaching style, and students are really locked into one particular type of classroom experience. Colors and materials are significant elements to consider when designing a learning space as they directly affect students learning and performance. Colors can influence students by distracting them or keep them focused and active in class. In Veltri et al. (2006), color selection has been found to increase learning productivity by 5 to 10%, reduce absenteeism, and help moral of a room occupants.
