Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) is a way for companies to benefit themselves while also benefiting society which is very significant in an organization. It is one of the key for an organization to be success, as it is one of the few practices, which is a strategic practice that gives positive impact to an organization. CSR has a great influence on economic, environmental and social factors in numerous ways. An effective CSR strategy must consider alignment with the organization’s business strategy, commercial added value, and sustainability of impact.

A positive public perception to a company that emphasize social responsibility seriously, the less likely it is that activist groups will launch public campaigns and demand government inquiries against it. Also, one of the massive significance of CSR in the workplace is it produce a positive environment. When the employees and management staffs feel they are working for a company that has good values, they tend to have more passion and in carrying their responsibilities. This can build a sense of community and teamwork which leads to unity, resulting to more productive employees. As example, companies like Sara Lee created a cross-functional, global Sustainability Working Team to help create a strategy for sustainability. Recently, there is a video of a brief talk by Geoff McDonald who is the Unilever Global VP for HR, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability. Using the “lens of sustainability” as described by McDonald, Unilever was able to produce new products such as a hair conditioner that uses less water. It is impossible for the company to make research and developed efforts that have led to such product without sustainability. “The only reason we’re doing sustainability is to drive the growth of Unilever,” McDonald said in the video mentioned above. So, we can see that, CSR can leads to new innovation of products or services by a company that can leads to more profits to the company and indeed an effort to look at the company’s long-term interest and ensuring that the company’s future is well
