Culture can be defined as customary beliefs or ways of an origin. Characteristics that can define culture are that culture is learned, shared, based on symbols, integrated and is dynamic (EarthLink). Culture is something that can be passed down from generation to generation, it is not inherited or in our genes. We are taught culture from everyone around us and being taught culture means we will share it as well. Starting from young ages, elders of family and friends share their experiences and knowledge of the culture. Symbols can be different from all other cultures. The harsh winters do not allow for the people to commute to work as easily. People living in the cities do not have as much as a problem as someone who lives outside the city limits. Recreational fun such as hunting and skiing is very popular in Sweden with their vastly amounts of mountains and hills. The agricultural is very proficient during the summer and spring times but the winters come with copious amounts of snow fall which makes it harder for farmers to raise their crop and animals. Most farmers have to use fertilization towards the beginning of spring to keep their crops alive longer then they would in a warmer climate. With Sweden being by a coast and the winter months being short, smuggling can be quite easy. In 2017, Sweden introduced the mandatory conscription due to Russia becoming more active with their military in the Baltic States (thelocal). The mandatory conscription will make eligible Sweden’s serve up to one year of service then hoping to maintain them in either active or reserve components.
