Technology brought us machines, computers, cars and aeroplanes. It made the world smaller by providing good communication tools, made it possible to explore the solar system and the universe and proved that technology is truly significant in human advancement. Advancements in technology have enabled humans to do things that were previously unimaginable and it has certainly made many tasks easier than they were before. There’s no denying technology is great, it has made life so convenient for humans that being without it is a very scary thought. Yet, it is hard for people to gain the social aspects of life from technology. From my point of view, creating meaningful relationships is about sharing our thoughts with others through person to person contact. Technology has put a consequence on the social ability of people through social networking as it can interfere with personal communication from face to face contact. In reality, when people who connect to each other through chat room messengers, it makes them socially awkward. sending virtual messages is a good way to connect, but when the people are placed in an environment with others they may become socially awkward, due to the anxiety they come across being face to face. This shows how our dependence on technology erodes our communication skills. Plus, most of our remote interactions today are done through technology. There are times that it’s quicker and easier to just use emoticons than to actually say the words they represent. It can be annoying to the receiver though, because they will think that we’re too lazy to even type the things that we need to say.
