The internet has been, arguably, the most influential form of technology to be introduced in the past hundred years. With this creation, the world as we know it has been connected in ways that were never dreamed of before. Peoples from thousands of miles away are able to converse and spread their ideas with a simple push of a button. Cultures have interacted like never before. This, in return, has caused a new information age that has enlightened the world as we start the 21st century.
Technology takes away the stress of getting to someone’s house to give them the information. In the article, “Meet Your IBrain: How Technology Changing the Way We Think”, state that, “we develop a better ability to sift through large amounts of information rapidly and decide what’s important and what isn’t- our mental filters basically learn how to shift into overdrive” (146). In today’s society, technology plays a very important role in its ability to function, it helps people find information, communicate with others far away and provides entertainment. In “Fahrenheit 451”, a book written by Ray Bradbury, a dystopian future where books have been made illegal is presented. This allows students and families to use their time more effectively to pursue other interests and activities. The flexibility of online learning can benefit students who have particular challenges in their education, such as those who have fallen behind in their studies (Lips). Students have reported that online courses are easier to concentrate in because they are not distracted by other students and classroom activity.
Technology could help people adapt in ways that could help them change the way they live and think. Although, it could negatively affect the way people process information through the internet such as having problems with literacy and distractions. In “Smarter than You Think”, Clive Thompson claims that technology can help humans be smarter. Technology such as computers to mentally challenge themselves, so they can improve. Technology has always been progressing thus it is rampant in our society today. We use technology; depend on technology in our daily life and our needs and demands for technology keep on rising (Ramey, 2012). Wherever you look, you will see people holding different kinds of technology like cell phone, laptop, tablets and etc. It appears to most of us that technology is a necessity to the point where we can no longer live without it. According to Gavin (2013), technology moves at a rapid pace, and can be hard to keep up with at times.
