According to the education Act Cap 211, the teaching staff in a school must be appropriately qualified and adequate in number. Teacher qualification tends to have positive effect on achievement of mathematics among primary school learners:HesehuSaha and Noonan (1978).A teacher with good qualification, appropriate training, and experience is the highest asseta school can have. A good mathematics teacher motivates, encourages, and checks, learners’ work to enhance high standards in the subject. The social characteristics of the teacher do have an influence in the learners’ learning. They also need to be familiar with young children’s social, emotional, and moral development, all of which are relevant to mathematical development. The overwhelming majority of work on teacher quality has examined the relationshipbetween teacher characteristics and learners participation at the individual and schoollevel. Hanushek (2000) in his research with regard to teacher education and experience, foundthatmajority of the …show more content…
Akey (2006) had similar findings when he found out that teachers attitude was being reflected in the students’ poor performance. Aduda (2005) revealed that teachers’ attitude and effectiveness were determinant of students’ attitudes and performance in mathematics. Uya (2011) studied teachers as a possible source of pupils’ attitude towards mathematics. She found no evidence to the effect that teachers’ attitudes affect pupils towards the subject. Margaret (2003) argues that there is a significant relationship between attitudes of teachers and learners performance. Owing to these studies, there is a need to undertake research on primary school teachers to unearth the discrepancy since teachers’ attitude towards mathematics is an important factor in learning
Introduction This essay aims to report on how an educator’s mathematical content knowledge and skills could impact on the development of children’s understanding about the pattern. The Early Years Framework for Australia (EYLF) defines numeracy as young children’s capacity, confidence and disposition in mathematics, and the use of mathematics in their daily life (Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), 2009, p.38). It is imperative for children to have an understanding of pattern to develop mathematical concepts and early algebraic thinking, combined with reasoning (Knaus, 2013, p.22). The pattern is explained by Macmillan (as cited in Knaus, 2013, p.22) as the search for order that may have a repetition in arrangement of object spaces, numbers and design.
Prior knowledge and understanding- children need to have prior knowledge to enable them to understand the ideas presented. Understanding- children need vocabulary related to the ideas presented Context- the mathematical concept must be understood by the child/children they need something to relate to, to back up what they are being presented with. Math is mandatory in life and is appealing to us. Some students belive that just because math is hard they should give up. Math will lead us to many great goals and
1. Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. Being an outstanding teacher goes beyond acquiring the competence and knowledge to deliver rigorous academic instruction to a diverse group of students. Outstanding teachers possess a multitude of qualities making them unique and unforgettable to the children they serve. I believe that outstanding teachers are passionate, inspired, creative, compassionate, patient and understanding.
Not only children learn from teachers, teachers also need to learn from children. A successful teacher is willing to learn. Teachers know that they are encouraged to learn for lifetime and not just for a short time as teacher is a life-long learner. Teacher not only gives knowledge to children and also gains knowledge when they
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY High School, the Secondary level of education is facing very harsh problems. The personality, attitude, emotional stability, morale, commitment towards work of a teacher determines the quality of education. The Secondary Education Commission (1952) rightly points out "We are convinced that the most important factor in the contemplated educational reconstruction is the teacher, his personal qualities, his educational qualifications, his professional training and the place that he occupies in the school as well as in the community. Reports of Kothari Commission (1964) says that “Of all the different factors which influence the quality of education and its contribution to national development, the quality, competence, and character of teachers are undoubtedly the most significant”. This statement reiterates the importance of teachers and their attitudes.
Their pupils will be able to know their strengths and weaknesses and know how to improve themselves right from the primary level (Civics and Moral Education Syllabus, 2007 (Character and Citizenship Education Primary Syllabus, 2014)). Especially, schools recognize the talents of students in both academic and
Part B Introduction The importance of Geometry Children need a wealth of practical and creative experiences in solving mathematical problems. Mathematics education is aimed at children being able to make connections between mathematics and daily activities; it is about acquiring basic skills, whilst forming an understanding of mathematical language and applying that language to practical situations. Mathematics also enables students to search for simple connections, patterns, structures and rules whilst describing and investigating strategies. Geometry is important as Booker, Bond, Sparrow and Swan (2010, p. 394) foresee as it allows children the prospect to engage in geometry through enquiring and investigation whilst enhancing mathematical thinking, this thinking encourages students to form connections with other key areas associated with mathematics and builds upon students abilities helping students reflect
(1998) states that it is important that both teachers use their training, skills, and perspectives in an equal way to create a balanced program that is effective. I believe the detailed core subject knowledge of the regular education teacher along with the requirements that the school district sets are very important factors that the regular education teacher can help assist the special education teacher with developing a plan for working with the students that need extra help. I believe that because most individuals may not be that adept in math, the core knowledge that the regular education math teacher has will be very beneficial when it comes to helping to augment lessons for individuals that need extra help without losing content meaning. It is so important for the two teachers to co-teach and work together as equals because if a good working relationship is not developed, then the special education teacher will simply be in the regular classroom working as a teacher assistant, which would not make for a productive teaching relationship. The immediate effect of an unproductive co-teaching relationship will be greatly noticed in the way the students fail to make
Even some students say that “Math is a curse”. The reason why they hate Math is they think their teachers
INTRODUCTION This chapter presents the background and describes the overview of this study which aims to analyze the influence of mathematical ability on subject performance of accounting students in De La Salle Lipa. Background of the Study Numbers dominate every aspect of business transactions, especially the accounting profession. Mathematics has a significant role in the business education and in the world of business. The discipline of accounting focuses on accurate numerical measurement where practitioners this field should be comfortable in dealing with mathematics.
Chapter I The Problem Introduction Every school has its own policies which stat the rules and regulations that they are implementing to control and manage the behaviors, attitudes, and activities of the students inside the school. This may enable them to become a responsible and discipline one. The administrators and teachers are responsible for monitoring and supervising the student 's behavior.
School and teachers can influence the extent and quality of learning for all students. Teacher’s beliefs, practices and attitudes are important for understanding and improving educational processes. They are closely linked to teachers’ strategies for coping with challenges in their daily professional life. Educators have control over numerous factors that influence motivation, achievement and behaviour of students. They are turning around their approach into a focus on creating positive school climate and responsive classroom as part of holistic quality education based on child rights where there is effective teaching and classroom management, thus enhancing students’ learning experiences.
Schools are the second place after home where students’ behavior and future educational success are shaped. At schools there are many elements or factors that can influence the teaching and learning process that may take place. Rasyid (2012) stated that there are four perennial truths that make the teaching and learning process possible to take place in the classroom. If one of these is not available, there will be no teaching and learning process, though the learning process itself may still take place, they are: (1) Teacher, (2) Students, (3) Material and (4) Context of time and place. All of them are related to one another.
A teacher is a person who delivers an educational program, assesses student participation in an educational program, and administers or provides consistent and substantial leadership to an educational program. Teachers have the very important responsibility of shaping our generation to become someone one days. A teacher is also an agent for the realization of national educational philosophy which to produce individuals who are balanced in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social. Recently, we 've got good news that teacher Yamin was selected among 50 top teachers around the world.
