The Importance Of Endangerment

Our population is getting lesser and lesser as time goes by. It has dropped from 300 to 250 individuals. My species is listed in a “report on October 27, 2007 as one of the 25 endangered primates by the Primate Specialist Group of the World Conservation Union's Species Survival Commission and the International Primatological Society, in collaboration with Conservation International” (Nash, 2010, para. 1). There are many factors contributing to our endangerment. Hunters and poachers without much hindrance can now go deep into the forest and locate us through the use of roads (World Wildlife Fund Global, 2014). I remember San, my best friend. We are almost born at the same time our parents would always tell us. We are from the same group so I know his parents and he knows my parents and that’s why we always see each other. I see him every time I woke up and before I rest at night. We have the same age group so we mingle and get along with each other. We do many things together like eating and playing. Our favorite thing to do is mimicking especially when we try to mimic Gad the one who leads us, my father. We would try to mimic the way he beats his chest and San would actually do the same way as Gad and then we would roll over. Then one day hairless creatures came and get San. Gad and other males tried to protect San but what can chest beats and growl do with things with sharp and shiny edges. I wonder what they did to San. Is he still alive? Just in other groups? Is he fine? I thought we would grow up with each other’s company and when the time comes of having a partner I would spend my life span with him. It’s just sad to think about it but I’m still hoping that one day he would come back and I’ll be waiting for that day
