In a time when machines are more efficient than manpower and when high-rise condominiums and skyscrapers dominate the urban jungle, world leaders are planning to globalize and build a new age for humanity (Press, 2016) through education. Education is one of the goals of globalization (McGrath, 2014; Sourani, Mourad, Khodr, 2016), which aims to intellectualize every human being.
A country with a high literacy rate receives benefits, as seen in its economy, technology, growth, and development. Strong literacy skills, as mentioned by Neilson (2014), are a key tool used when children discern and interpret information, which enables them to utilize the Internet to its full potential; the children with strong literacy skills can then bring these

As stated by the Department of Education (2013), the K to 12 Program, covering 13 years of basic education, is a program present in nearly all the countries worldwide, sans Angola, Djibouti, and the Philippines. In order to keep up with the rest of the world and with globalization, the Philippines implemented the K to 12 Program for its students so that they may match the recognized standard for students and professionals

What are the lived experiences of underprivileged engineering students?
2. What similarities and differences are present between the experiences of the underprivileged engineer students in the unique courses they pursue?
3. What are the significant actions taken by the underprivileged engineer students in order to maintain their status as underprivileged achievers in their schools?
1.2 Significance of the Study
As members of an engineering school’s student body, underprivileged students play a significant role, and more often than not are the ones who manage to obtain remarkably high marks and become recognized as underprivileged achievers become models to their peers. The study’s results might provide some form of insight for engineering students that are in similar positions, but lacking the comparative ability, and compel them to recognize that their status does not hinder them from achieving similar merits.
Another beneficiary might be the underprivileged engineering students acting as key participants themselves, as the study might be able to show them how they could improve upon their own situations by examining the situations of others who have gone through similar circumstances and have achieved similar
Carr sees this change as dangerous; he has lost his ability to immerse himself in his reading. Fortunately for Carr, he is a “Digital Immigrant.” Unlike the youth of this generation, referred to as “Digital Natives,” the Internet has merely stunted his practice of deep reading, whereas the Digital Natives never learned
Maryanne Wolf, a developmental psychologist at Tufts University worries that a style of reading that puts “efficiency and immediacy; above all else is weakening internet users capacity for deep reading” (Carr 287). Never has the internet has had such a huge influence over society’s thoughts as it does
The author utilize people and data to support the drop-off in reading among teens because of technology. Ludden bring in two teenagers to say why they don’t read. The author provides a parent to show the impact of technology on a 10 year-old. In the article it talks about social media “10 year old...less reading..more attached to digital media platform.” (Ludden.1) and “many distraction on the internet.”
The way we view each other in terms of finance, education, and family aspects depends on a person’s social class. Students from lower backgrounds usually experience difficulty in the educational system. The educational standards of their family’s life differ from those in the higher classes because teachers teach according to the student. Meaning, not only does having a particular social class already separate you in terms of the educational system, but it also determines how and what you learn. From personal experience I’ve learned how to see from the perspective of a student who is of a lower social class than majority of his peers and teachers.
"What do you know about the hardships and obstacles that the underclass faces?" The other students were staring at me. "You have a point," I said. " (Walls 257).
In the book “I just want to be average” by Mike Rose, Mr. Rose tells the story about his lack of education growing up and how he was put into a lower class of scholars. The program that Rose was enrolled in was the Vocational Track [2], through his own words this was a “dumping ground for the disaffected [3]”. Rose was placed in the vocational track through an accident because he had the same last name of another student. He enjoyed that type of learning environment because not much was expected from him. The other students that were also in the vocational track were said to be the slackers or the slow students.
The road to success can be a formidable battle that may take years of hard work to overcome, but it is possible and literature such as Hillbilly Elegy and Why Poor Students Struggle suggest that providing understanding and support to those who are
As the digital age comes upon us, more and more Americans become dissatisfied with the state of literacy in this generation. Because the Internet paves the way for shorter and shorter interactions, namely articles versus novels and six-second viral videos versus films, many people that grew up in the age of the Internet have a preference for this condensed form of entertainment. Dana Gioia of The New York Times asserts in his essay “Why Literature Matters” that the decline of reading in America is destined to have a negative impact on society as a whole. Gioia opens his essay with a bittersweet account of which trend is occurring in the twenty-first century America arts scene. He notes that as college attendance rates blossom, the interest
This goes to show that although the separations of classes make it more difficult to achieve, there should be nothing stopping you from reaching your goals, no matter how modest or lofty they
Education is affected by social class; directly and indirectly. Looking at directly first we can see that individuals from higher social classes are more likely to have the resources to attend the elicit schools, and as a result have a better chance of receiving high exam results and continuing to third level. While indirectly, people who benefit from these higher educational opportunities are more likely to acquire the top jobs which in turn will result in the highest salaries. Thus education and social class closely connected and one impacts the other. This paper will explore how ones’ social class affects their educational experience and outcome particularly focusing on working-class students.
By the end of my speech, 212 underprivileged children around the world would be clenching their stomach and wobbling from garbage dumps to garbage dumps, searching for half- eaten food. 5 children in India would leave school to work in a dilapidated undergarment factory for 14 straight hours, enduring whipping, and pain just for 3 bowls of rice. 3 children in Africa would be dead after being beheaded by heartless invaders. The power to change this situation lies with every one of you present today. Basic necessity such as food, basic education, security are few of many things that underprivileged children lack.
Therefore, in a stratified society, the individual’s opportunities are always determined by his or her social class. In this essay, I will be arguing that even though mobility exists in the social class system, the opportunity to change status is relatively open for everyone but the distribution of opportunities among the members of a social class is not relatively equal to all. I will demonstrate this point by showing how participation of an individual in a specific social class will decide the opportunities in terms of attaining education and achieving a well-paid job. Education has a significant role in promoting social mobility; it enables people to acquire knowledge and certain skills in order to promote their social status. Nowadays, people believe that societies are based on meritocratic
Globalization is the process of transformation of the whole world into the global village, and it means that the borders of countries are open to reciprocal integration and connection. All governmental systems in both developed and developing countries were under the influence of various globalization processes. Regarding education, it is considered that developing countries felt significant impact of the globalization processes in the last 40 years. Globalization and education are considered as an intertwined set of global processes affecting education, such as worldwide discourses on human capital such as are lifelong learning, the knowledge economy and technology, English as a global language; multilateral organizations and multinational corporations. Educational discourses generally assign to human capital, lifelong learning for improving job skills, and economic development, because most governments prioritize the developing the human capital to stimulate economic progress.
Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared for it today.” In the western world education plays a vital role in shaping our future; it determines if we will survive or fail in the world we created for ourselves. Our world is constantly changing and it requires a society that is well versed in understanding the problems deriving from cultural differences and tolerance of one another’s beliefs and perceptions. With the power of education we are able to deal with the problems of economic, government, religion and culture differences.
Introduction Prior to taking this course, my perspective on globalization was very limited because I had very little knowledge and experience with this topic. I never gave much thought to the educational practices or policies that are implemented across the globe. There are many factors to consider when it comes to the process that these countries have taken to successfully integrate technology into their K-12 education system. Before even taking this course I will admit that I have thought about how great it would be to connect with educators or health professionals across the globe, but I never thought I could make it happen.
