Nowadays we are living in the age of globalization and as a result anything produced or invented in any part of the world gets global character very rapidly. To keep pace with globalization it is very much essential to learn the global language English. English has a grip as the language of the global world, and being so it has become the most commonly learnt second language amongst foreign language speakers. English is the most commonly taught second language in foreign schools, as English is the collective language spoken by 1,8 billion people world wide, 27% of the world’s population. (Zeeshan Naved, 2015).A vast majority of non-native English learners study a wide variety of school subjects using a language that is not their mother tongue. How far it is beneficial to the academic side of a non-native English student? Let us have a look on the merits and demerits of studying English as an important subject.
English is an international language, also called as global language. Experts on the English language like David Crystal, author of "English as a Global Language," say the world has changed so drastically that history is no longer a guide. (Mydans, 2007) English has got the status of international language for various reasons. It has crossed the national borders of English speaking countries and reached people who speak other languages. Another important reason is that almost all the international organizations conduct their meetings in English and it reveals its
In the writing, Jake Jamieson introduced and explained an argument about English using for immigrants. In first paragraph, the author introduced that the melting pot system is not working truly. Many people think the U.S. is famous for melting pot because of many immigrants. These people view the melting pot as a pot which contains many melted cultures and living styles inside. But he argues that these people lose their culture by adapting to new culture and only thing left is discrimination.
English has allowed me to take a risk and get out of my comfort zone. Not only have I started to participate in class discussions, but I also have been trying advanced topics and perceiving them in ways that I have never done before. If I am in honors I will gain complexity and will be able to expand my knowledge. In order to grow as a student, I need to be challenged with harder material. (STEWE-2)
CHAPTER 2 French language French naturellement The French language is regulated by the Académie Française to prevent any non-French words from creeping into the True French Language. If in doubt a New French Word will be created, for example a Walkman (a trade name) became a Balladeur. Unfortunately for the Académie, many words are in common use, that are not of French origin: weekend; sandwich; parking; stop (stopper = to stop!) ; star; TOP-50 and OK, Jeep, jerrican, and nearly all names of sports except pétanque or boules.

PROPOSAL ENGLISH TEACHING METHOD APPLIED BY ENGLISH COURSE TEACHERS ENGLISH DEPARTMENT FACULTY OF ARTS AND CULTURE UDAYANA UNIVERSITY 2014 By: I Kadek Ari Wiguna (1201305011) CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background English has been an international language which is used and spoken around the world. English becomes the most commonly taught language. It is now taught from young age. Now, children also have the same opportunity in mastering English.
The globalization of the English language is not something that came about coincidentally, or because of some inherent superiority in the structure of the English language. English came about as a dominating language because of the rise of military, economic, and political power of the Western nations that used it as its mother tongue. While the prospect of a global language has many positive attributes in terms of global communication, the very real possibility of English being the dominant language of the world is not without its fair share of issues. As discussed in the text, some populations are deeply concerned with the prospect of English globalization. Though English is the main target because of the very real possibility of it becoming a global language, the dangers of the globalization of any language includes the concern that will give an unfair advantage to native language speakers, and the possibility of the loss of indigenous identity for those whose first language is not English.
In my point of view, English is an appropriate language as an international language and English is a part of the international life because of 3 main reasons which are political history, economics and also the simplicity of this language. First, one of the main reasons why English is the international language in the world today is the fact that Britain was the global superpower in the nineteenth century and America is the global superpower in the twentieth and twenty-first. These two English-speaking countries were the most important countries in terms of the military and trade. By overcoming and colonizing so much of the world, their customs, culture and way of life became common in those parts of the world. This is why so many colonies that were British before now have English as the national language, with many of their people speaking English as a first language.
Just a few centuries ago English was spoken by just five to seven million people on one, relatively small island, and the language consisted of dialects spoken by monolinguals. Today there are more non-native than native users of English, and English has become the linguistic key used for opening borders: it is a global medium with local identities and messages. English has become a world language, spoken by at least 750 million of the whole population today. It is more widely spoken and written than any other language, even Latin, has ever been. It can indeed, be said to be the first truly global language.
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Problem Language has a central role in the development of intellectual, social, and emotional learners. It supports the success in learning all fields of the study. Learning the language is expected to help learners to know them, their culture, and other cultures. In addition, learning language also helps learners are able to express ideas and feelings, participate in society, and use an analytical and imaginative ability that was in theirs.
Language gives the ability to convey ideas. It has existed for at least 80,000 years, marking the time when human beings started communicating. But, where do languages come from? There are two ways; the first is evolutionary, since the first humans interacted with each other and shared their ideas through vocals. “To understand his fellows and to be understood by them, men were impelled to the production of language without which they could not communicate with each other.”
Currently the language most often taught as a second language around the world. Because English is so widely spoken, it has often been referred to as a "world language", the lingua franca of the modern era and while it is not an official language in most countries, it is currently the language most often taught as a foreign language. It is an admitted fact that English has emerged as an International Language of the world. Many nations of the world are striving for learning it as second language. In its role as a global language, English has become one of the most important academic and professional tools.
Standardization of the English Language English was not the original indigenous language of Britain. The first arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain, the inhabitants of the country spoke Celtic languages. Yet English shows few dialects brought by the Germanic invaders. Nor was the subsequent growth of English within Britain a smooth or inevitable trajectory. After the Norman invasion, English was not the first language of the ruling classes.
According to an article written by Penn State, “ The benefits of having ,more culturally aware students are numerous and the effects are immeasurable. Learning a second language allows cross-cultural communication, and opens the door to entire network of people that a person might not have had contact with before.” The study of foreign language upon an individual at an early age gives comfort and understanding insight to a diverse community. In which, everyday, our society is changing, and more cultures are exposed to our civilization. With more diversity growing yearly, the second language will not have limitations to have different relationships and bonds with people in life.
English as a global language We can’t deny that English has become an international language for communication between all mankind , it is the common language between most of the countries , English is a global language which is spoken as a native language and a second language in most of the countries , and we noticed that people who use English as a second language are way more than people who speak it as a native language , it is taught in every country in this world , it is using as a medium language of understanding between the teacher and the learner , you can see it in banks , supermarkets , in road signs and in international web pages, it is the language that you see and hear every day, so speaking English become a must , also we can’t ignore the fact that English is the language of global communication at medical , tourism , trade and other elements of language use , So English is so important in our various lives aspects.
