It is absolutely essential that students in many other parts of the world learn English. Thailand is no exception to this unspoken rule. Because of the fact primary schools in Thailand have been teaching English for years, students should be relatively proficient in English knowledge. However, that does not seem to be the case for a majority of the students. That is why it's vital for schools to start putting a stronger emphasis on teaching Thai students how to speak and write in English. Ultimately, this will help them in both their professional and future endeavors. Generally, English fluency holds the key for Thai students to succeed in a global environment. 1. Rote lessons Problem: Many schools use a simple rote instructional method that students must follow closely in order to receive passing marks. Teachers are typically the instrument through which writing lessons are passed from a broader source, like a curriculum or publication. English grammar and conversation lessons may simply be comprised of a worksheet or list of rules with examples that …show more content…
Beyond that, teachers needs to create opportunities to write in practical English form. A great way to address this would be to require each student to write a daily personal journal in English. By taking the emphasis off formal writing and putting in on establishing practical writing skills, Thai students will seek out ways to better express their personal feeling and thoughts in a manner that an English speaking person would understand. With an eye towards the future, teaching high school level students to write resumes and fill out job applications in English could also go a long way in giving them much needed writing experience, plus it gives them an opportunity to understand why English skills might be important to their
As a baseline, teachers should be trained to acknowledge the resources and backgrounds all children so that they may be able to recognize the strengths of non-native English speakers. A wholistic evaluation of minority groups is necessary for their successful integration in to the education system, if traditional practices are to continue in society. Many children in poorer areas are forced to “code-switch” between their home dialect and the dialect spoken in school. Teaching one “correct” way to speak and write can have major implications for a young person’s confidence and

Cravens READING AND WRITING FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS 0232 27 April 2023 With society's rapid development and diversity, whether writers should be allowed to use their own English has already been a hot and important topic to discuss. In the three articles “Do you Speak American” by Robert Macneil, “Why Good English is Good for You” by John Simon, and “Lost in America” by Douglas McGray they all share the same theme that Americans lack the motivation to be culturally diverse and broaden their horizons outside of the American Culture due to the lack of funds. This basically means that Americans lack the motivation to learn more about their culture and other cultures because they focus more on fitting in and doing the same thing as all other Americans. They lose the drive to be different and to educate themselves based on where they came from. In “Do You Speak American”, Macneil emphasizes how even though we have different cultures within America, we are all “Americanized”

As a foreigner who has English as a second language, English had majorly let me down in Academics. Usually, I found myself lost during class and did not understand anything, but when I reviewed in Korean, it was easy. Therefore, I figured out understanding English is key to success. To improve my english, I start to talk more to other people, revise same essay over and over again, and studied same thing in korean, and back to english. Initially, when I first walked into class, I had no respect for writing papers or the class. However, as the weeks progressed and the weeks went by, I’ve slowly gained the respect that English deserves. While it is still fairly difficult for me to formulate my thoughts and turn them into cohesive, well-structured sentences and paragraphs, I now know that most of what I write now is so much better than what my writing was when we initially started. It is through practice and revision that my writing has improved.
The self-examination assessment asks the learner to take time and think about the 30 areas and determine where we stand. Typically, I don’t like self-assessments such as this because dependent upon its structure and who developed it can skew reality. Throughout my military and civilian career, I have taken tests that ask questions into my status or 360-degree assessment of ability levels. These tests, taken in the specific context of the questionnaire can be helpful in developing a process to grow or improve something the program is supposed to help. This particular assessment reinforced items I where knew I should continue to develop myself.
English-language learners (ELLs) with special needs belong to a minority group and require specific direction for educators on how to help these students in the school context and how to help to improve their educational outcomes. Though, the educational needs of ELLs are diverse and rather complicated. English language learners face many obstacles due to their cultural and linguistic diversity.

Writing is not just about coming up with ideas and jotting them down on paper saying that it is your story because if it is then it is half done, and readers would not want to read what you have to say about how you feel on an experience that you have explored. Writing is about going through experiences and jotting those experiences down on paper and putting them in order so that the reader can understand what experiences you went through to get to the point that you have come to. Writing is a way to write you feel and to make it easy so that you do not have to speak what is on your mind. In my opinion writing can be my favorite thing to do because I like to write but when it comes to me speaking, I get nervous and do not know what to say when I get in front of a crowd. Writing can also be a way to get out of things such as if you want to break up with someone, tell your parents something that is bad that you do not want to tell them in person, talk to a doctor in a message just in case if your friends are
