For hundreds of years, entertainment has been in our lives in more ways that we can imagine. Developing into new forms of diversions, entertainment has become a way of passing down tradition as a form of amusement. In this way, people continue their rituals and keep their attention on what they considered to be an enjoyable action. First, it is necessary to recall that there are many types of entertainment, such as: movies, books, oral stories, festivals and such. Entertainment is the basis of our cultural history since it permits tradition to be passed on, it enables history to be spread and it can unite people. Entertainment is one of the best ways to pass tradition through generations. For years, we have always heard our parents and grandparents´ stories and tales from a long time ago, such as the …show more content…
But actually, social media can bring people close together, even if they are apart. Many of long distance relationships work because they have the condition to connect in the internet. Also, we live in a world that is constantly having international exchange, which means that people from Brazil, for example, have the need to talk with businessmen's in China. They, and many other countries, keep their relationship through the internet, consequently, business activities are kept active around the world. Entertainment can have many functions, either from telling a story for tradition or just for amusement, to connecting people from all over the world. We are constantly are using different forms of entertainment in our lives, even if we don’t realize it. For hundreds of years we are using entertainment as a bridge to our personal goals. These goals can vary from passing tradition, to learning a part of history in a different way other than using a school book, and connecting with people because pleasure or
Social media has created the popularity of many meaningless relationships diminishing the number of true connections among people. The author used the point-by-point organizational style for her essay. This can be seen the clearest in paragraphs
I disagree with Dailey’s results; strong friendships and bonds can be created over social media. Some people lack the social skills needed to make friends with their next door neighbor or the person standing next to them in their local market. “Facebook may not replace the full benefits of real friendship, but it definitely beats the alternative” (Dailey 144). For these people, Facebook is the perfect venue to get to know someone that they
The Overuse of Television Kameron G Loyd BYU-Idaho During an average week, how much television does the average child watch? Parents, educators, and concerned citizens alike would be appalled at the answer of 1,480 minutes (BLS American Time Use Survey, A.C. Nielsen Co.). They would also be revolted by the statistic that 54% of four to six year olds would rather spend time watching television instead of spending time with their fathers (BLS American Time Use Survey, A.C. Nielsen Co.). In 1984, Neil Postman saw how devastating television watching was becoming to the culture of America, and gave a speech to the literary community at the 1984 Frankfort Germany Book Fair entitled “Amusing Ourselves to Death” which deals directly with this monolithic issue. Although the speech and subsequent article, published in Et Cetra, were directed at the publishers, writers, illustrators, etc., all those who read this article can also benefit from Postman’s overarching desire to decrease the hours of mind-numbing television watching.
I agree that entertainment has the capacity to ruin society. Entertainment is everywhere, and there are millions of people around the world every day who are influenced by entertainment. There are commercials and shows on TV, lots of music, radio commercials, comedians and actors, and video games, as well as many more forms of entertainment that reach millions of people daily. Wherever you look, there are bound to be people immersed in some form on entertainment, whether that be games on their cell phone, radio, or music. Since we are so reliant on entertainment to distract and captivate us, it is a reasonable statement to say that entertainment could run, and possibly ruin, society.
Entertainment is seen everywhere whether it 's reading a book or seeing a movie with friends. Entertainment can shape a society and many individuals include time for entertainment on a daily basis. Many people love entertainment and find it as mode of relaxation. The truth is that entertainment has the capacity to “ruin” society. The concept of entertainment in society has been growing and has the capacity to ruin the state of society while negatively influencing individuals.
Entertainment Controls Them All Huxley has a theory of entertainment as control and we can see it throughout his book Brave New World. The fact that his vision was made years ago, makes this vision even more interesting, because knowing that entertainment has a big impact into our society for the book reveals similar forms of entertainment to control it’s people. The ways that the book was created has brought to conclusion that our society is controlled by entertainment. Our society has become a trivial culture preoccupied with entertainment.
Also, it can bring people together by showing each other what they lookd like if they hcae not been able to see each other for a long time. I think that technology has brought young people, (teens), closer together, because they are more open over the internet, and sometimes you may get to know someone better over the internet.
Neal Gabler defines entertainment in his book Life the Movie: How Entertainment Conquered Reality as a damaging power which is able to “ruin” society (Gabler, 1998). However, according to Longman Dictionary, entertainment refers to “things such as films, television, performances etc that are intended to amuse or interest people”; to be more objective, it “entails communication via external stimuli, which reaches a generally passive audience and gives some portion of that audience pleasure” (Bates & Ferri, 2010). The contradiction of these definitions shows that entertainment makes both negative and positive influences on society, so it is not entertainment itself, but the way how it is used by human beings has the capacity to “ruin” or improve
According to James Gleick in his essay “What Defines a Meme?”, a meme is something that is repeated by others. One of the first examples listed by James Gleick is “survival of the fittest” (Mauk 186). The next example and the easiest to explain why it's a meme, is hula hoops. It started off with one person, then more and more started doing it. Memes have rhyme and rhythm.
But today researchers are finding that video games can actually change us for the better and improve both our mind and body. Which is why today I am going to persuade you that video games are beneficial not just a waste of time. In this speech I will be talking about the benefits of video games on us and why it makes our life better by explaining:
In the view of education academics, video games may play an essential role in boosting the performance in particular subjects and the development of varying of skill [3]. While acknowledging that engaging in video games may cause a negative mental effect on the secondary school students, this essay argues that video games education should be implemented because the benefits of digital game based education would possibly become primary to the high school students because it could improve social behavior and increase academic behaviour and performance. The argument that scholars question that video games may cause negative effects on
First one is, when we communicate on social media we trust people soon at the end of communication. Second social connection those are strong due to face-to-face interactions in the past become weak due to social media. While using social media, we usually communicate with the people having same point of view like ours, so we lack in the variety of viewpoints. With the evolution of communication technology type and style of interpersonal communication is changed. Hence, with the larger influence of technology, communications become more advanced
Various games are activities that have been around since the beginning of time has evolved into a technology based forum for all ages called video games. These types of games have become an extremely popular activity and are a big part of a lot of people’s everyday lives. Instead of looking at video games as a leisurely hobby that one plays in their spare time, it is now looked as a positive benefit for people to play. Playing video games are beneficial, according to some studies they can develop cognitive skills, create social connections, and stimulate creativity.
Social Media: Affects Relationships As technology progresses more and more, there have been great changes that have made our lives more easy and efficient. There are many advantages that technology has brought upon us, one in particular is the Internet. The Internet has allowed people to be connected quickly to information and be updated to the issues and happenings around us, but the social networks that have been invented to allow long distance connection have been resulting in negative outcomes for society and our generation. Social media gets in the way of building actual relationships, makes people become inauthentic about their lives and lowers their self-esteem, and has become a dangerous and threatening nature. During these days, it seems as if nobody can live without checking their social media accounts, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
People also stay connected and interact with one another, with their peers, people of similar interests, and even their family members. This helps strengthen their relationship even if they are busy with their daily routines. In addition, social media sites have become a platform for youth with similar interest or common discipline to get together, building connections and opportunities for their respective careers. Youth claims that social media not only makes their lives easier and efficient, it has become their lifestyle. While social media has seems to bring people together and help one another stay connected, it has created social isolation in regards to BBC News report.
