Maintaining ethical standards is key in the success in any organization. News of unethical behavior swept the media in the past few months. Sexual misconduct has plagued some of the biggest names in news and media. Personalities who have become house hold names and brands in and of themselves have been taken down in the name of sexual misconduct. Networks like NBC, and CBS were directly affected by alleged behavior by individuals representing the organization. How do organizations stop unethical behavior from taking place? There must be something that can be implemented in which employees will want to avoid certain behaviors especially in the work place. Being a team player is important for workplace cohesion. However, knowing one’s work performance will give members a picture of what they are doing or not and if there is room for improvement. Many organizations have different performance standards. “Accuracy of performance appraisals is very important in public personnel management” (Miller and Thornton para 1). During this time of rating, employers can go over the training that should be required for all employees. Managers can review certain benchmarks in which employees should meet in order to maintain the ethical standards in place. It’s important for organizations to do the best they can to uphold there moral and ethical codes. Organizations don’t want to be in a situation in which they are misrepresented in any ethical matters however, in the event they are, it would be beneficial for them to cover all their bases and certain annual trainings might be …show more content…

Perhaps more cases are taking place but victims are not reporting them for one reason or another. Maybe victims are afraid of retaliation or being looked at as a snitch or whistle blower. There might be a chance the enforcer of these behaviors is from the leadership of the organization. Putting in place effective reporting approaches is a good way for managers to have a handle of cases that take place in the organization. Anonymously surveying employees will give the opportunity to report unethical behaviors that are taking place. When the Me Too movement began, it was women from years ago that were finally coming forth about inappropriate sexual behavior. Perhaps if there were better reporting methods, these occurrences would not have taken place over and over again. Managers have a responsibility to uphold the company standards to the best of their abilities. Trainings, performance rating and enhancing reporting methods are three ways to foster an effective and appropriate work environment. Some might say that managers should be aware of certain cultural differences. What if what some might find offensive, others find as the norm in certain countries.
