With year-round school, all of the costly things the school has bought and placed in the building would actually serve their purpose more often and attain the usage they should. All schools should participate in year-round school because children and faculty get more breaks, students forget things over summer break, and it would be efficient use of the school building. Year-round school schedules, such as the 45-15 plan, would be much more logic and effective for students and faculty in this day in time. Don’t you desire to have the most beneficial and knowledgeable school learning experience
“The importance of physical fitness in the development of cognitive and memory skills have long been extolled by scientists. Cardiorespiratory capacity, muscular strength, and motor ability are components of physical fitness that have been known to improve mental health” (Iyer 1). In gym the teachers are always telling the students that they should get this amount of exercise and this amount of rest. But if the school board is not giving them what they had taught the students, 60 minutes of exercise. Hectic
The first reason sports help kids these days is by making them have a healthy lifestyle with good food and lots of exercise. This huge, as it stops kids from always eating junk and binging T.V. Sports let kids exercise in a healthy way through the important practice and energy required in competitive sports, which is encouraged by kids desire to win and get better, and forces kids to exercise by also getting better. For example, Kirk Mango (a physical educator, former coach, and national champion) says, “fitness improvements achieved through training...In a society where obesity has become a major health issue”(Mango, 2012). This shows that sports are a good way to keep people healthy.
An article illustrates that Don Westfall, the general Manager of the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford, wrote how they are realizing that kids are better athletes at a higher level because they began playing that support at a young age. They have improved those skills through travel sports with a higher level of training (Kountz). This explains how travel sports are improving their skill level because they started practicing/playing at a young age. Travel sports give the kids a high level to practice at, so they can become great at that sport one day. Lastly, a mom realizes that playing travel sports really benefited her and her daughter.
In high school and college I am starting to realize that teachers don’t give specific rewards for getting good grades. But I have learned that we are paving the way for us to get a better future and that is the best award of them all. Being a student athlete I believe that I am receiving more than regular students because you learn so many life lessons in sports. I believe that the field trip that I went on is what made me start to apply myself better in school. I received the about $4,000 in academic scholarships for attending UW Parkside.
I believe that the positives of being involved in middle school sports, by far, outweigh the negatives. Being involved in middle school sports help these children grow to be adults physically, emotionally, and socially. According to the CDC many children in the United States are obese and overweight. Middle school sports encourage children to stay physically active and fit. This could reduce some of the obesity in the United States.
Governments around the world need to promote physical activity, whether that be through more P.E. in school or other fitness programs (“Governments must act to reverse alarming rise in Childhood Obesity”). Governments should also support more healthy foods, especially since today McDonald’s will sell a burger for a dollar, but to buy a salad it costs much more. Also large corporations need to see the problem and stop ignoring it. PepsiCo has recognized that there is a lot of business opportunity in offering customers more healthy products, and health-oriented products are now the company’s fastest growing sector and currently represent almost 40% of the company (Hood).
These codes are expected to be lived by but have done nothing but become a burden to students and faculty. High schools, colleges, and universities should not have honor codes or honor systems because, some colleges cannot enforce them, students will not tell on one another, and the responsibility of others honor is burdened on students. Contradictory to what many may believe many schools lack the authority and control that is essential in maintaining honor codes. This makes it less likely anyone will abide by such codes. As aforementioned, schools don 't have the ability to enforce honor codes in such a way they would change a student 's behavior.
In my opinion, I think that competitive sports in school have a lifetime of benefits. In this article Kevin Kniffin states that, “Research shows that people who play high school sports get better jobs, with better pay.” In my essay I will be explaining how people who play sports get better jobs and better pay, and how hiring managers expect more out of a former high school student who played sports. In my opposing side I will be explaining how in the worlds smartest countries, school is about learning. However, this minor argument still leads me to the side of Kevin Kniffin. People who played sports in high school will most likely get a better pay and a better job.
Truth be told, there is very few ways to prevent an attack on a school. Merriam Webster defines the word Prevent as “to stop something from happening or existing.” This means that the police have to know beforehand if an attack on a school is to be prevented and arrest the attacker before the attack happens. For clarification, the reason I am using the term “an attack” instead of “a shooting” is that an attack can happen at the school that does not involve a gun. School attacks that have not been prevented can only be reacted to. With reaction being defined by Merriam Webster as “to behave or change in a particular way when something happens, is said, etc.” If the police cannot be there to react to an attack that leaves only the school staff, including teachers.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
