Whenever doing comparison shopping, questioning the value of a higher priced item over the lower priced one is only natural. The customer is rightfully interested in a purchase that delivers the best value. In fact, this questioning is necessary because automatically buying the most expensive or least expensive item guarantees that many of your purchases will deliver dissatisfaction rather than value. It all comes down to what "best value" means to you. For different people, this means different things, and at this point, little more can be said.
It highlights various ways of designing an indigenous scales and manipulating Western ones so that they become more culturally appropriate. For example in this study, translating the Interpersonal Scale to Urdu, which is the native language of Pakistan, was a good strategy. It allowed participants to understand the scale better and answer questions comfortably. The study followed all the ethical guidelines required in a psychological test which is pretty commendable since it is difficult to do that in a society that might have a different perception of ethics altogether. It also highlighted gender differences, which is extremely important even in small populations like Pakistani university students.

Furthermore, Browne also assumes that men hate makeup which women use to improve their physical appearances (Browne 45). These days, advertisements are made with the aid of photoshop which creates an unattainable image of beauty and thus, puts pressure on women to achieve these standards. Photoshop in the beauty industry involves manipulating a picture to make it flawless. Magazines photoshop these images by toning the abdomen, removing every facial blemish, defining the cheekbones, etc. In 2003, actress Kate Winslet criticized GQ magazine for photoshopping her picture saying, “The retouching is excessive, I do not look like that and more importantly, I don’t desire to look like that”. The media portrays these unrealistic standards to men and women of how women should look, which suggests that their natural face is not good enough. Unrealistic standards for beauty created by the media is detrimental to girls’ self-esteem because it makes women feel constant external pressure to achieve the “ideal look”, which indicates that their natural appearance is inadequate. There has been an increasing number of women that are dissatisfied with themselves due to constant external pressure to look perfect. YWCA’s “Beauty at Any Cost” discusses this in their article saying that, “The pressure to achieve unrealistic physical beauty is an undercurrent in the lives of virtually all women in the United States, and its steady drumbeat is wreaking havoc on women in ways that far exceed the bounds of their physical selves” (YWCA).
According to Britton (2012), last 2008, YWCA USA developed a report Beauty at Any Cost wherein they discuss the consequences of beauty obsession of every woman in America. It shows that beauty obsession results from a decrease in the level of self-esteem. It also gives a problem to the Americans because it’s also putting a dent in their pockets. It states that because of those cosmetics many people have decreased the level of self-esteem because of those cosmetics.

33 percent of the women studied were concerned with appearance associated with aging such as sagging, wrinkles, and weight changes. However, only 21 percent of the men were concerned with how age affected their appearance (Olson, 2015). The double standard is also seen when observing the fact of women wearing make-up on a daily basis. The idea of appearance and growing old puts pressure on girls at a young age to wear make-up to enhance their physical appearance at all ages. Men do not wear make-up, but women will use makeup to disguise physical features associated with age.
