In the ancient history, the food was chosen by the process of observation. They were avoiding any food that animals avoid. As a result, only a few plants were used for eating in the ancient ages("TheFood Timeline: history notes," n.d.). Many cultures in the past used to live on farming some individual grains like what Maya did with the maize (Cartwright, 2015). Relevance between Food and Humans with Rhetorical Analysis In the modern industrial society, being aware of what the food we eat come from is an essential step of preventing the “national eating disorder”. In Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma, he identifies the humans as omnivores who eat almost everything, which has been developed into a dominant part of mainstream unhealthiness, gradually causing the severe eating disorder consequences among people. Pollan offers his opinion that throughout the process of the natural history of foods, deciding “what should we have for dinner” can stir the anxiety for people based on considering foods’ quality, taste, price, nutrition, and so on.

McWilliams takes the opportunity to plead his case against the popular belief that buying food locally can help save the planet in “The Locavore Myth: Why Buying Form Nearby Farmers Won’t Save the Planet” (McWilliams 89). It is a collective activity everyone must experience; thus meaning it allows people to relate more easily between each other. The company as a result obtains an advantage from its competitors as they produce long lasting food options, which allows consumer’s to save during tough times. In the article, “The Pleasures of Eating”, author Wendell Berry shares his knowledge of the food industry and discusses the act of eating as part of the agricultural process. Berry asks deep questions in his article that will make the readers question what they are putting into their homes and into their bodies. Most Americans, according to Berry, can be categorized as passive consumers that are basically allowing food industrialist to brainwash them by means of advertisement. He argues ,“They pay, mostly without protest, what they are charged” implying that the consumers do not even question what additional cost, such as transportation, might have added to the product .The article provides an interesting perspective on consuming food and Berry shares multiple ways that the passive consumer can become more educated on food.
Processed includes chemically processed, refined ingredients, and artificial substances. They have many artificial ingredients with many to zero real food. Using preservatives manufactures can stop spoiling, colorants to make desirable, with flavor and text rants. The production and consumption of processed foods and the artificial ingredients has lead to numerous health related problems in today’s society, including low nutritional intake, over consumption, obesity and illness. What is Processed Food? The term ‘processed food’ applies to any food that has been changed from its natural state in some way, either for safety reasons or convenience. Some foods need processing to make them safe, such as milk, which needs to be pasteurized to remove harmful bacteria. Other foods need processing to make them suitable for use, such as pressing seeds to make oil.
Around the world, about one-third of the food that we produce is wasted and the food wasted can feed more than 1.6 billion people (Royte, 2016). Food waste is an economic issue. In developed countries, consumers make a great contribution to food waste. In the United States, about 40% of the food is wasted and a four-person family loses $4 per day on waste food and the amount is about $1500 per year (Save the Food). If people can stop wasting money, they can use the money to improve their life in other aspects, such as entertainment, education, and health.
