Ladies and gentleman, have you ever felt you were treated unequally by others? We all know there were only two sexes exist in Chinese, if you want to write both boys and girls together, you need to combine word they with Chinese character of “he”. Don’t you understand this is a kind of gender inequality, do you? Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Is it religion that has caused us to treat men and women differently or does it come from the days when physical strength was much more important for daily life than it is now? I accredit that many of you who is sitting here are females. Don’t you feel you are treated unequal by others? Many people think that those things are women’s duty, but not men’s. Even some people said that men have the work stress and they just need to make money for their family. But, female also need to work, and they have the same stress as men have. For example, in my family, my mom is in charge of taking care of me, cooking…… Let me talk about a real example happened to myself. My father is working for the family. Once, when he came back home, my mother asked him to cook, however he thought that is my mom’s duty. It was wrong that my father always ask my mother to do those things; it was wrong that my father didn’t do any housework; it was wrong that my father ignore gender equality! There are many similar things in the world. I think, in a family, these things are duties for every member in this family. Don’t escape from your
America gained its independence in 1776 with the expectation that every American should have liberty and equality. However, American women did not have the right to vote until 1920, which was almost more than 140 years after the United States was established. Women could do little to protect themselves and promote their careers due to being treated unequally and inferior to men. During the 19th and the early 20th century, women were working hard and fighting for gender equality, so that more and more women could live a better life with basic civil rights in their hometowns. In reality, women’s equality was challenged by traditional conventions in the fields of biological difference in sexes, religion and gender roles, and different perspectives towards these conventions of different people made women’s civil rights controversial.
Men have given the media this unrealistic image that women cannot fend for themselves, cannot do hard jobs, or cannot get as far in life as a man. Even in jobs, though a woman and a man may be in the same position, women “earn just 74 cents for every $1 a man earns” (CNNMoney). This is truly unfair, yet men today still say that women are “equal,” though it is obviously false. Women today, though they have more rights than in the 1800’s, are still not in the place we need to be in ranking with men. Women are still abused, sexually harassed and mistreated more than men because of their sex.
This idea has been diffused over centuries, but people now are trying to impede gender disparity and efface it. To conclude, we find ourselves on a dilemma. On one side we have machism and men thinking they are better than women and vice versa. On the other, we have people who are just looking for gender equality.
In India, there is also another conflict where women are treated less than men and people are starting to speak up about this issue, as seen in Document 2. The #IWillGoOut movement is a protest where women demand equal rights to public places that men have all rights to. This is a form of how societies group their members. You can see that because these women are a different gender, they do not get all the rights that everyone else has.
This is due to the traditional gender role that has been applied in a society for centuries, and it is fairly recent that the modern view of equality was adopted. Nonetheless, the efforts
Women’s responsibilities increased especially at work and war. Women, even today are discriminated because of their gender, so there is still no equality between both genders which should stop. Many women worked in the work force. According to an article, “For the first time, women
Although times and conditions have changed, women in today 's society are still being discriminated against because of the same belief that women are inferior to men. Women in the united states and other first world countries are being deprived of equal pay and equal rights. Women in today 's society make 80 cents for every dollar a man makes and get discriminated against because of the belief that women aren 't as strong and intelligent as mem. They have been excluded from numerous educational opportunities and in some middle-eastern countries, are stripped from their basic human rights like education and equality. Women all over the world are now coming together to fight for the rights that they
In other words, should male and female be treated in the same way? Before evaluating the gender inequality, we should first aware the situation of gender inequality nowadays. Taking the most familiar environment---China as an example, in the northern
Women face getting treated differently, lower paying positions, the opinions of men, and the idea that because they are women they are not capable of the same kind of work men are capable of. The more people that support the different movements for women’s rights the better chance of this issue becoming more well known. Although some may know the struggle women go through to be compared as equally to men, there is still room for more to learn about this issue. Just because women were brought on earth to make more lives does not mean they are weaker and should have to go through this everyday of their
In a usual family, there are set roles. A father, mother, and children. Stereotypically, each role is supposed to have a set job- the father is in charge of the family, making the rules, the mother cooks and helps the children, and the children play. This stereotype is slowly changing throughout the years, and some could argue that it is different for their family. One thing that should be true in all families, is that the parents are good role models for their children, leading them in the right direction in life.
Sex and gender are the two terms used for identification of masculinity and femininity among humans in our daily life. Sex is the biological term that determines the biological and “anatomical” differences between male and female species. It also clarifies the primary and secondary sex characteristics a person should have in order to be male or female. However, gender is a socially and culturally constructed term that delineates the distinction between men and women and their roles in the society. Gender is also used to organize relationships between man and women in social life.

This play, A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, focuses on women, especially in marriage and motherhood. Torvald is a character, who describes inequality between men and women and the women’s role in the society in that era. He believes that it is an important and the only duty of a woman to be a good wife and mother. As an individual, a woman, could not conduct or run a business of her own, she needs to ask her father or husband and they were only considered to be father’s or husband’s property. Women were not allowed to vote and divorce if they were allowed they would carry a heavy social shame and it was only available when both partners agreed.
This article, “Gender Development Research in Sex Roles: Historical Trends and Future Directions” was written in a 2011 on NCBI, which points towards how the gender roles are different and how the society views them. This text includes the study of gender development, sex roles and trends over the past 35 years. Today gender roles, especially in the United States, are different from what they were in the past. But there are still many differences in roles of sex in many places around the world where women are considered less than men. They are not allowed to go out without a man going along.
