The United States ' history is full of gun related incidents that greatly affected the American people. Some examples include the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Senator Robert F. In our country we tend to blame our mass shootings and homicides on guns, but without a human behind it guns are harmless. Instead of banning these firearms all together, which may only cause an uprising in illegally owning guns, why don’t we strengthen our gun control laws? By banning people the right to carry and own a gun, we are restricting them of their basic rights.
Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership. This makes us wonder why people can be so defensive over something like a gun that is so dangerous and has lead to a lot of deaths in the American society. Gun control is essential in our society today because it will help prevent unnecessary shootings and crime rate Gun control will play a major part in the decrease of the crime and murder rate. Therefore, in my point of view, guns should be totally controlled and regulated by the government. After every tragedy, reporters from the top news shows, such as; ABC NEWS, NBC, HSN, and CNN rush to the scene of the crime. I understand that coverage is needed, but the issue begins when the coverage discusses the shooter with more importance than the victims or event. The media contributes to the problem with its 24/7 coverage and its intense focus on the killers and their backgrounds. This type of coverage attracts unstable individuals and increases the risk of future tragedies. (Dikel) According to Sherry Towers, mass shootings may be contagious.
As Pollitt says in The Nation, “… without a gun, it’s difficult to kill and injure a whole crowd of people, no matter how much you’d like to” (484.) Background checks are necessary to keep guns out of the hands of people who will do harm with them. Background checks should not be limited to stores. I do also recognise that there are already a staggering number of guns in the possession of the general public, and I feel that the only way to tackle this issue is cultural change in America, changing the views of individuals on the idea of guns, but change is always

More so, military grade weapons must only be sold to—here it is (said with humorous irony)—the military, and not to individuals that can use these weapons with malicious intent. Finally, I know there are many Americans that own guns in s responsible and regulated manner, but the continuing trend of mass shootings are examples of the dangers of unregulated weapon sales to mentally ill individuals.
