When the dinner bell rings in America, many families are not flocking to the table, but running to the car and the call of the “Golden Arches”. In today’s over-scheduled world, food has now become an afterthought and America is paying the price, literally. Obesity is now an epidemic and a crisis that is not slowing down. The nation is not only paying the price with sky-rocketing medical bills from the effects of the American diet, but also with the deteriorating health of its citizens and for the first time in history, a generation with a shorter life expectancy than the generation before. Food today looks nothing like the food of just 40 years ago, and now instead, is making people sick and obese.
Now don’t get me a wrong, a good juicy cheeseburger is good every once in a while. Through the opening of these fast food restaurants, kids, adults, and students alike will be more tempted than ever to spend the money on a quick and easy meal. I can’t count the number of times my parents have gotten take out simply because they didn’t want to cook. Secondly, the prices of fresh food are at an all-time high. Currently, the prices of fresh eggs are higher than recent years because of a bird flu.
“What should I eat” “What am I eating and where in the world did it come from?” These are the questions we often ask every time we buy our food. What is it made of and if they are healthy or not? I am one of the “healthy crazy people” that will search for every single content of the food before I buy it. I always look for the “Nutrition Facts” - calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, and carbohydrate.
If you pay for it now you won’t pay for it later! In Michael Pollan’s book Omnivore's Dilemma he talks about different food chains & the good & bad of all of them. The Industrial Meal is food made from corn for example fast food restaurants. The Industrial Organic meal is very similar to the Industrial Meal, but Industrial Organic uses natural fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers. The Local Sustainable Meal is food made from grass & is obviously local to some.
Junk food is responsible for the growing rate of obesity. This is outlined by David freedman in his article of “How junk food can end obesity.” David Freedman has credited the “health-food” motion, and followers of it along with Michel Pollan. Freedman claims that if the America desires to stop the obesity epidemic, or at least reduce its effects, they must shift to the fast meals and processed meals enterprise for assist, now not the “health-food” movement.

Today life is on the fast track. People are always on the go and don’t have time to properly take care of themselves or their families. For most Americans, fast food and junk food are ready to grab for a snack or a quick dinner. They don’t slow down to think about how the foods they are eating effect their long term health. Fewer and fewer families take the time to prepare a nutritious meal and are passing down bad habits to their children.
Action Plan Summary For module two my action plan to reach my goal of reducing my chance of developing diabetes by reducing the amount of sugar I consumed was to drink nothing but 2 liters of water at least 5 times a week, as well as cutting down on sugary snacks in my diet. For module three, my action plan to reach my goal of gaining 5 pounds in three months was to perform strength training at least 3 days a week doing routines for different muscle groups each day. I have been going through with my plan, but I have only managed to put on 3 pounds of muscle in the last 2 months. Although I am a little behind on my progress towards my goal, I plan to keep going forward and accomplish as much as I can. For module four, my action plan was to track to food I eat every week and to make sure what I am consuming meets the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

In fact, this statistic is predicted to increase significantly as fast food restaurants are continuously being built everywhere in the U.S. Fast food restaurants are everywhere.
In general, a healthy diet can help to maintain a healthy body weight or improve overall health and decrease the risk of many diet-related chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers. There is a good evidence proved that eating a healthy diet can reduce the risk of obesity and illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and some types of cancer. The foods that people consume contains several different types of nutrients, which are all required for the vital processes of human body. Impact and contribution of a healthy diet to a positive lifestyle are according to people’s lifestyle, behavioral and habits. Examples, eating habits, health awareness, physical activity, lifestyle practices, and others that will influence people’s lifespan and lifestyle.
To eat a healthy diet, you may need to make some changes. Remember that you can change your eating habits a little bit at a time. Small changes are easier to make and can lead to better health.
