A personal example for me was getting a good grade on a piece of work and taking excessive pride which not only annoyed the others around me but also set an exceedingly high example which when the next quiz came I failed. Good rules to follow about excessive pride is that yes you should have a little bit of pride in you work but making something that is not or over emphasizing something just takes the uniqueness and specialty of the grade of any achievement. A thing that I was taught from an early age about excessive pride is that having too much will not only make me look arrogant but so will too little, you just have to find the balance. I was told that If I do an outstanding piece of work you should take pride in it and not lower what it is for attention of standards. I was also told that I shouldn't make myself seem like the best there is because there is always someone who is
A number of high schools, colleges, and universities have adopted an honor code to cultivate integrity amongst students at their institution. These principles vary from cheating to tardiness, to plagiarism and have garnered praise from multiple outlets for apparently being successful in preventing cheating and enforcing punishment for those who break the rules. However, others like myself, criticize the honor code due to skepticism in its abilities to prevent such rule breaking, its success in being enforced, and whether it would actually convince a student to not cheat. If Windham High School were to establish an honor code, it would be a failure given that it would not encourage students to abstain from breaking it. Academic institutions
Integrity is being honest and doing the right thing even when no one is looking. Don Galer’s quote, “Integrity is what we do, what we say, and what we say we do” shows that integrity is affected by strong moral principles and what we do with those. The role of National Honor Society is to celebrate the students who have kept up their integrity throughout their high school career and to keep them on that same path. Integrity is an important aspect in education today because there are so many opportunities to cheat on a multitude of assignments but the students who stay away from cheating will be better off in the long run. For example, while I have been in high school there have been many times that I could have cheated like reading the spark
Although we live in an age obsessed with numbers, it does not mean we should use this as a means to measure a student 's worth. We succeed in life for many reasons; GPA and ACT scores do not guarantee success. There are more important aspects that cannot be measured in quantitative terms, like the ability to be action-oriented and connected to work that improves the lives of others. Furthermore, nurturing psychological literacy and developing the internal strengths that determine a meaningful life. Though I’ve faced challenges, I’m grateful for them; as they are the catalyst for my personal and academic success.
On numerous occasions, I am given the responsibility of overseeing major projects and events because of my tenacious ability to direct and motivate others to achieve specific goals. When assigned leadership roles I find it difficult to delegate certain tasks in fear of the job not being completed in a timely manner. Previous experiences have taught me that leadership roles can be demanding, yet rewarding for the right individual and the ability to delegate and collaborate are two skills that I need to focus on before seeking a management career. Critical thinking has always been one of my best attributes.
I agree with Professor Marcus Crede’s assessment on grit as it 's nothing new in education terms, simply repeating what we’ve been told at school over and over to have grit and keep working, but the importance of grit has been exaggerated. For example, in the article Crede states “ People with monomaniacal obsession and super powers of dedication are not the only model for success.” Opposing Duckworth’s claim on the importance of grit, grit may have some effect on success, but you cannot correctly measure it, as some may not care about school and have grit towards something else showing on paper that they won 't accomplish anything big when in fact you can 't test that. The study’s done with grit are nothing new or groundbreaking as they
My biggest challenge so far has been focusing on myself rather than others. I would like to become more self-confident and accepting of myself and others, but it’s difficult when I’m always worrying about how my fellow students see me. “ (Telemachus:) I think what you have said will not be accomplished. What you mean is too big. It bewilders me.
I like to be successful person and pass my exams. When I have any exam, I feel of worry and tension about it, so I answer some questions without of thinking about them carefully. I just answer them hastily to finish the exam and get rid of tension. So, here is a shifting which sometimes impacts on my grades. This shifting happens because of feeling worry toward getting a good grade to succeed.
My Educational Journey Today I would consider myself an average student. On occasion I tend to slack off but what student doesn’t. At the end of the day, I always try my hardest to be the best possible student I can be but, life isn’t perfect everyone has setbacks but we have to work through it. Don’t take obstacles as a negative switch them into a positive use them as motivation to keep going, Ralph Marston states “you turn a negative into a positive, you gain twice. You are no longer burdened with the negative situation, and in addition to that you are strengthened by a new positive force”.
We are taught the difference between the right and wrong since our childhood but are always told that the lying and cheating always makes things difficult but when students go to school and college they are faced with different dilemma as then the cheating seems to be the easier way to get good grades. They do not really see cheating as the wrong way of doing things they see it as an easy way of doing things .They do not even consider it as an unethical thing because they have been taught that to do the right thing is the easy way .They are taught that the right path and the ethical path is always the easy one but in reality that is not true. The ethical and right path is difficult and complex as J.K.Rowling has said, “Sometimes we must choose between what is right and what is easy.”
I’ve become more confident in my writing. More willing to express myself. Grades aren’t important to me but good grades are necessary. Any cheater could get good grades but it’s more about the mystery of the skill and if you actually learned and understood.
However, a student with grit might be disappointed in the grade he received and decide that there is something he could do to help fix it. This student might seek assistance on the assignment that he struggled with so he will not have to worry about the same mistakes in the future, whereas a student without grit probably does not look for assistance to better himself. The extra assistance will allow the student with grit to achieve the highest grade possible. Another difference these students have is how they prioritize. A student without grit forgets to study for a test he has tomorrow and has already made plans to go out that night with his friends, but he assumes that he will do well enough on his test tomorrow and goes out with his friends
I understand this more after reading my LPI 360 assessment. Although, the feedback was mostly positive I have identified ways to become a better more valuable leader. In the numbers portion I received pretty low scores in finding ways to celebrate accomplishments and overtly praising subordinates for their hard work. This resonated with me because I have felt unappreciated before and I d o not want my subordinates to think what they are doing is not important or appreciated. Other tools I will use to try different leadership approaches will include the DiSC and MBTI survey.
As assessments scores are recorded, I will know whether the lessons are on the right level or whether I teach all the topics effectively. I will also learn what areas students need to work on, which points need reviewing and whether I should spend more or less time on this material with the next course students. It is also important because I will have an evidence of students’ learning journey. It is required by funding body to regularly inform about students’ progress. The class profile form will show if the students achieve the outcomes and goals.
