According to Rick Pittino, “Humility is the true key to success. Successful people lose their way at times. They often embrace and overindulge from the fruits of success. Humility halts this arrogance and self-indulging trap. Humble people share the credit and wealth, remaining focused and hungry to continue the journey of success.” A few months ago, I was working at a German Café in Bartow called Oktoberfest. My friend, Jaqueline, had told me that they were hiring people. I applied for the job and was hired that day. I was very excited because I had taken two years of German at my previous school. I knew how to read the menu in German and was familiar with the types of food. After two weeks of work, I felt like I had really understood the job. Her demeanor was negative and vicious and very few customers came to eat. Her breath reeked of liquor. She was so rude that it reminded me of a cougar tearing into its prey. The cook and I were the prey. Whenever she would get upset with me for no apparent reason she would tell me to do unnecessary stuff such as cleaning the grease traps, cleaning the restrooms when they were already clean, and organizing the silver ware. I would literally clean the café top to bottom oven, stove, floor I could not do anything to please her. Disrespectful to everyone, my customers would ask me how I could work with Kristin when she treats me poorly. I honestly think that she stopped getting customers was because she was extremely rude not only to me but her customers as well.
Other examples of Kristin’s abuse were numerous. Our town mayor came into the restaurant and she told me not to wait him because she thought I would not serve the right food. Kristin blamed me when she dropped food on the floor. There was not a single thing that she felt I did right. I was always doing something wrong in her eyes. She would say that it was my
