CAS is an abbreviation by the IB standing for Creativity, Action, and Service. Each of the following terms is of grave importance to the IB program and the creation of a holistic and meaningful education. It is an essential part of the program, and also one of the most interactive ones if treated correctly, allowing oneself to develop and uncover new aspects of their personality. Creativity refers to creative thinking, through many experiences including but not limited to art, as many misconceive. Action refers to physical exertion (according to each individual’s ability) in order to make a contribution either in terms of academics or throughout any area of the diploma. The first outcome, the development of new skills, is clear through CAS because of the skills acquired through new tasks; it is also clear for TOK because the main skill that TOK aims to teach is critical thinking, by enabling the student to understand how they learn; one of the first ways through which this has been done is through the analysis of an argument ad ignorantiam, or an appeal to ignorance, which basically says that something is true because it has not yet been proven false. Also, through the analysis of the connection of TOK and the humanities, issues of global importance are addressed, and specifically their implications of knowledge, such as in analyzing primary and second-hand knowledge and its relationship to what we learn and the ways through which we obtain knowledge. Furthermore, through working in groups throughout class and sharing ideas, the concept of collaboratively working with others is address. Lastly, the goal of the awareness of one’s strengths and areas for growth is one of main connections between CAS and TOK, since TOK addresses these skills by increasing the student’s awareness of how they know; this also allows students to grow as individuals, through the discovery of how they know what they
