Just like movie genres, love has its own genres. In Anthem, by Ayn Rand, only one genre of love is allowed, brother love. Not the kind of brother love one sees in family households. Ayn Rand creates a society whose main focus is equality. To get there, the society works for the common good thus creating a collectivist society.
The reason for this great variation is different decision making process. Gilgamesh on the one hand does whatever he desires, without taking any individual interests into account. On the other hand, Hobbes puts forward the idea of commonwealth, in which men enter into covenants and agree with one another. “The commonwealth may use the strength and means of them all, as he shall think appropriate, for their peace and common defense ( Hobbes 79 ).” In this way, the society will acquire peace and harmony. The comparison between individual and society is considered significant is because individuals live and act within a society.
As Ralph Emerson said, “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles” (last sentence of book). Remaining true to himself, McCandless was able to achieve what he considered to be meaningful in life. From the start of his journey, it is seen that being true to oneself is challenging, as others are living in a world that demands them to alter their identity. However, one must stay true and authentic and understand the desires and needs, in order to attain an adequate living, just like Chris McCandless.
It creates a standard to which people want to live up. Living up to these standards earns people honor in the sight of others. These three characters, Reuven, Danny and Mr. Galanter show characteristics that make them worthy of society. Culture forms the world around us, and keeps us in check; sets our standards and allows for good people. Reuven, Danny and Mr. Galanter all live up to culture’s standards; Reuven for his friendship, Danny for his respect and Mr. Galanter for his caring and guiding nature.
How can a collectivist society be created when each individual is different? In Anthem, Equality is the protagonist that lives in a collectivist society, in a collectivist society every individual is equal and must think and act collectively. In the novella Anthem by Ayn Rand the process for establishing a collective society requires the removal of love, education, and individualism. In order to remove love and relationships what leads to these relationships must also be taken such as friends and family. Removing love and relationships between others help create a collective society because if an individual does not have feeling towards one they will listen to the highest authority.
Respect Essay Respect; can be defined as a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. A common term when talking about respect is “Give respect to get respect”. To give respect to someone means that you don’t violate them in any kind of way. You give them they’re space and respect their boundaries and others will respect you. The term basically means be respectful to others and nobody will disrespect you.
Dr. Seuss said, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” He is saying that one should not care what others negatively think about them because it is irrelevant to the significance of their life. Civil-Disobedience and Walden by Henry David Thoreau, and Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson also give advice on how to make life as meaningful as possible. These pieces of literature all present diverse ways of creating a meaningful existence. Thoreau and Emerson express their opinions about creating a purposeful life through Civil-Disobedience, Self-Reliance, and Walden. In Civil-Disobedience, Henry David Thoreau advises his audience to follow what they think is right, no matter the consequences.
All humans have the same natural rights, people should just enjoy their lives well they have time, as said in carpe diem poetry. The carpe diem poem titled To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, by Robert Herrick, states, “Then be not coy, but use your time” (Herrick, 464). One should not sacrifice his or her happiness to achieve power, however, this statement is not valid because it is utterly a lie to say that one is satisfied being powerless or being ruled by somebody. Everyone needs power to be
That and nothing else." This quote shows the concept that individuals must be free to live their lives and to realize their potential. Those individuals do not obey. they are independent, pursuing their values, and living their own happiness. Once Equality 7-2521 makes this relization he is able to break away from his old
It also shouldn 't be what others think, but of what you think and what you want. And finally, to live what makes your life happy. Similarly, to what Ralph Waldo Emerson stated, “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principle.” Leading, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless
