Warren Buffet Intercultural Competence

Today, we have a vast amount of global leaders from companies such as, Toyota Motors to global leaders in management such as, Warren Buffet. No matter how great these companies or leaders are they all have one thing in common in that they are interculturally competent. Although most bystanders look at these people or companies and they say that they are superior intellectually and have superior skills that does not always have to be the case if you want to be a successful global leader. As Margaret Pusch explains, “Seemingly gifted individuals have failed, and seemingly less endowed people have soared”, moreover, I agree with her that it does not necessarily take superior intelligence, but rather grittiness to find success. Therefore, anyone not named Warren Buffet we still do have a chance to be an influential interculturally competent leader. Nonetheless, once potential global leaders obtain the aforementioned skills they must constantly develop them. Pusch recognizes four ways to develop the skills associated with developing intercultural competence including “immersing yourself in another culture when traveling, forming multicultural teams, training individuals with action learning projects, and overseas assignments.” I believe immersing yourself in another culture is the most effective way to develop your intercultural skills because it takes you out of the work environment. While the context of intercultural competence takes place in a work environment difficulties in understanding other cultures arise unless you have immersed yourself in another culture. Most people act a certain way inside the work environment and alter their behavior a little outside of the work environment, thus, to understand a culture one must travel and delve in
