First of all, communication plays an important role in controlling member behaviour due to the fact that organizations have hierarchies and formal guidelines that employees have to take into consideration. To be more precise, communication acts as a control function when employees respect their job description, obey the company policies or simply communicate a job-related complaint. Informal communication can also control behaviour. When work groups draw a member’s attention to his excessive involvement that may affect the others’ reputation, the member’s behaviour is informally communicated and controlled. Second of all, communication stimulates motivation by explaining to the employees what their responsibilities are, providing feedback on their performance, and rewarding them for desirable behaviour. Emotional expression is another function of communication, which allows people working in a group to show their satisfaction and frustration. DESCRIPTION In week five we learnt about communication channels, it means the mode of communication people use to communicate in an organisation in order to perform tasks. Communication makes a major part of our active life and is a social activity. People communicate in both personal and professional capacities for a variety of different reasons. In a work setting people may communicate to build relationships; maintain relationships; gain and share information; gain reassurance and acknowledgement; to express needs and feelings and to share thoughts and ideas. Chapter 4: Madonna’s most controversial video: “Like a Prayer” One might consider it a dangerous thing to address God especially in a popular cultural context, but artists tend to make an effort to push the boundaries of religious themes. Madonna did the same thing and invited the protest of the Christian community. (Doyle, 2008) Like a Prayer, a religious-themed video was banned by the American Family Association and a fundamentalist religious group as they protested that it was offensive. (Doyle, 2008) At the same time, the Vatican also censured it and many people also rejected the video because of the inappropriate sexuality and the blasphemy.
Communication is very key and important in any organization as it facilitates a proper relationship between employees of a firm. There are certain factors that can distort effective communication in a firm and some of these factors are, filtering, selective perception, information overload, emotions, language, silence communication apprehension and lying. Also, keep in mind that cross-cross cultural factors clearly create the potential for increased communication problems. These factors should be looked at and addressed in the firm to increase the level of effective communication. Televising in this particular dystopian novel is used to maintain the order within the population. Initially, the Capitol, the ruling government of Panem, has monopoly on every media source and it utilises media to control and manipulate the twelve districts and the citizens of the Capitol as well in order to maintain its supremacy and prevent any rebellion that might bring about its downfall. Televising is one crucial tool a totalitarian dictatorship such as the Capitol uses to control and brainwash the mind of those who voluntarily or compulsorily watch the broadcasts of the government.
On Thursday our class was lucky to have an accomplished sports writer, Cee Angi come into our class and speak. She spoke not only about her article on the legendary Vin Scully, but also gave us great insight on what it is like to be a sports writer. After reading her article multiple times and listening to her speak it brought me to think of my favorite radio broadcaster in all of sports, Tom Hamilton. Growing up as a kid, my Dad would always watch games with the sound muted and instead would turn on your stereo system and tune into WTAM 1100. I used to always question it, but he would always just say "This is how a game is meant to be heard."
