It was noon, the month of September was beginning. The thermometer, hanging on the wall next to a poster of a culinary TV show, marked 36 degrees inside an apartment converted into an office space. I was sweating profusely, my armpits felt like a waterfall and my shirt was damp with sweat running down my body during the half hour I’d been waiting there. “The Director is a bit late, but will arrive promptly”, said the secretary, before calling him on the phone, scolding him for not being there in time. He overslept and failed to recall the job interviews he was supposed to conduct with the future interns for his new documentary. I was one of those possible interns. I studied cinema four years in college and complemented my studies with a post-production and editing course in a vocational training center for an additional year. My five years of intense studying …show more content…
It was rare to see her smile or laugh, but she had a pleasurable smile, so it was delightful to have a glimpse of it. We were colleagues in the vocational training center where we perfected our skills. As she was the best student in our class, her presence there just amplified my edginess and the onset of my sweat glands. “Hi, funny seeing you here!” She said happily. I was taken aback at first, not knowing what to reply, “Hi S. I’m fucked now, right?” Was all I could say. She laughed and told me I was being my foolish self. Even so, I knew that with S. there my chances of staying in that production company would be null. We chatted for a while, reminiscing about our year together at school, remembering our colleagues and asking if anyone had gotten a job yet. It was a seemingly innocent question, but deep down we wished no one had gotten a job before us, “I heard whatsisname got a job as an intern at that cooking show on channel 1,” I recalled. “Really? He was such an annoying prick! Lucky bastard.” We laughed, talked, and time went by in an
Clare walked toward Tom and chuckled at the puddle of drool she saw under his face, which lay on his desk. She just stood to admire him for a few seconds and then she shook him to wake him. When Tom woke up he looked up and smiled when he
The balloons are out, the flowers are in bloom, I smell summer. I smell a summer like no other. Not because the groundhog came out early this year, or because I was one year older, but because I was a graduate, from Gilkey International middle school (finally). Sophie comes up to me yelling, super excited for the night ahead, graduation. As we rehearse our ceremony, in our high inched heels and dainty fake eyelashes Charlie runs up behind us screaming in our ear jumping us out of our own skin.
The police were taking roll calls, once, twice, twenty times. The heat was oppressive. Sweat streamed from people’s faces and bodies. Children were crying for water. Water!
The night was fraught of laughter and warm conversations that I could not believe took years to eventually come to. By the end of the night, my mouth was tired from smiling the entire time. All in all, I had a great a time. Mind you, I have not seen these friends in ages – literally ages. However, there’s a reason for that.
What do I have to gain from the Capital Semester Internship? That question can be answered by displaying what I can contribute as a participant in the Capital Semester Internship. As a senior and a Psychology and African American Studies major at Virginia Commonwealth University, a student worker, and an avid volunteer, I make a strong candidate for the Capital Semester Internship. My research interests which are a combination of psychology and social justice, my career goals that will utilize psychology to influence public policy, and my willingness to learn more about government on a local, state, and national level will help to enrich my experience in Virginia’s legislative branch of government this upcoming semester.
One experience I think that has helped me prepare for the role of an Apprentice is my present job; this job has allowed me to work directly with both students and teachers in a school setting. This experience has allowed me to learn about school culture, creating curriculums around teamwork and has most of all allowed me to learn how to build rapport with students based of their interest and needs. Another experiences I have had that I think makes me a great candidate for this apprenticeship opportunity is being apart of the inaugural class of Guttman Community College. The reason why I make this claim is because being apart of this community taught me to take initiative, because there was no clubs and no platform furthermore, as inaugural
“Then she started to remember something and came back to look at him with wonder and curiosity. “Are you happy?” she said. (p. 7)
In one scene, to show the warmth of the late spring that the Brooklyn inhabitants were continuing, Spike Lee uses a montage of the distinctive techniques occupants used to attempt and chill. This montage likewise depicts the warmth as severe and incapacitating in the respect that individuals are experiencing serious difficulties experiencing their day by day schedules. We can see a fix of one individual cleaning up slicing to someone else putting their face in super cold, water-filled sinks to someone else putting their head in their cooler, a man puts their face straightforwardly before a fan, and ultimately we see the camera cut to daily news paper titled with, "Hazy, hot, humid and headed toward 100 degrees". Had Spike Lee overlooked this montage, the watcher would have to a lesser extent a feeling of the warmth upsetting everybody's day. Having Senor Love Daddy saying on the radio that it would have been 100 degrees without having the montage would do the scene no equity and would decrease the criticalness that the warmth plays in the motion picture.
Positive communication was witnessed in the form of the two young girls that were happy to see one another, but it also appeared in a more negative light, such as the manager yelling at the employee. Noticeable in the interactions was the varying degrees of eye contact. The satisfying interactions seemed to contain more eye contact, apparent between the two girls, as well as when the studying group would communicate, and when the older woman asked for the chair. When the manager scolded the employee, the employee continued to face forward at the food station in front of him, while the manager spoke to his back. The employee maintained a slumped, dejected looking posture, while continuing to work.
I have frequently tried to impact the lives of others through service, and found that each attempt has also had a profound impact on my own life. This phenomenon is especially true about my Congressional internship with the Hon. Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives. Working for Leader Pelosi, I learned that service is about the people who are served, and not just about abstract ideas. I learned to serve others best, not by acting as their savior, but rather as their partner- a partner that empowers them to live better lives.
In the novel laughter play a major role by representing a type of freedom and an escape from nurse Ratched’s restrictions. Laughter proves a vital role in helping the patients deal with their problems. Not only does

It’s an ordinary day, much unlike any other, as Mary arrives at her dental office, a few minutes early, so she can indulge in her guilty pleasure, this week’s PEOPLE magazine. As she grazes the articles, her dental hygienist, Darci, appears in the reception area and escorts Mary into the hygiene room. Mary hangs up her jacket and purse, and sits down in the dental chair where Darci drapes a bib around her neck. Darci: Nice to see you Mary, are there any changes in your health?
“Hey,” I said, trying to sound inviting. “Hey yourself,” the tall boy said. “I’m Charles Baker Harris,” I said.
At the start of class four of the Wenatchee Fire Department firefighters showed up, and today they were going to teach class. (As the fireman entered the class room I and the rest of the students pitched our noses for the aroma of smoke and sweat hazed the air. the fireman looked at us in confusion and quickly apologized saying they just got off a fire before coming here.) As the fireman entered the classroom, the aroma of smoke and sweat hazed the air. The fireman apologized as me and the rest of the students pitched our noses when they walked to the front of the class.
