What a wonderful era we live in, infused with all kinds of technology. Supposedly we are made efficient and productive by a myriad of inventions and gadgets. There is a gadget for almost anything. Specially designed gadgets assist one to sleep while other gadgets are designed to keep one awake. Some gadgets improve one’s fishing skills, they better one’s golf game, while others just allow one to play away for hours.
The incredible current technology created a wonderful opportunity for us to have quick and convenient access to knowledge. For centuries the civilisation’s knowledge existed in libraries. To keep and maintain a library is an expensive undertaking. For this reason it was, and still is, governments, learning institutions and large church organisations which are the custodians of these libraries. In the pursuit of knowledge a scholar was required to spend hours manually searching through books, theses and manuscripts. Often a search had to be conducted from library to library to find that elusive piece of knowledge as every library contained a different collection of books. It was always libraries that provided a knowledge backbone to learning institutions. When attempting to live a victorious life in the blessings granted to us by the work of Jesus on the cross, the popular saying, ‘ignorance is bliss’, can’t be further from the truth. In fact, ignorance translates to bondage. Not only does it bind us to our own personal shortcomings; it also binds us to harmful teachings and religious customs. Ignorance robs us from becoming the victorious children of God, we should be. According to Jesus, bondage is the result of not knowing the truth. This is why He taught his disciples, ‘…you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’ John chapter 8 verse
