ARGUMENT 2
There are many issues have to be considered. First of all, it is necessary to identify the leader’s style and its’ contribution to achievements into a leadership position. Leadership style is an approach to planning, providing direction and motivating people. Three leadership styles tend to be the most basic and they are autocratic that implies dominance of leader over employees, democratic that consider leader and employees as a whole group, participative and laissez-faire style when the role of employees is prevailing. According to the interview, manager of Atlantis hotel seems to follow democratic leadership style, which contributed to achievements into his leadership position. This is clearly can be seen from the answer described

The reflections of this trait can be found in the description of leading an important meeting, where manager command proper preparation: ‘…if you know that you have a meeting next week then you have to be ready – know your topics, be ready for the questions of the stuff, maybe exercise at home ' (Kai, 2016). Chung-Herrera et al. (2003) examined the important leadership and management competencies and they reported that self-management was the most important competency. Self-management in their study represented ethical behavior and integrity in the workplace, time-management, self-developing and learning and ability to work under stress and pressure. Authors regard that industry-specific expertise can be acquired or learned while self-management skills are often an inherent part of individual leader’s personality and self-management …show more content…
Similarly to international results, democratic leadership style proved to be stimulating, while the authoritarian leadership style was inhibitory. It has also been proved that not only leadership style influences creativity, as the model of successful creative organization cannot be described with the behavior of the leader(s) only ' (2016; 103). While the democratic leadership approach is often highly effective, there is no one 'right ' way to lead or manage that suits all situations. The following points must be considered to choose the most effective approach: the skill levels and experience of the members of the team, the work involved (routine or new and creative) and the organizational environment (stable or radically changing, conservative or
It’s a vicious circle. Organizations are only as good as their leaders; from here we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the leadership practices. All leaders have their own style that works for them based on the situation they are dealing with. Current leadership has utilized multiple styles of leading our organization during this process. I feel that all leaders need to possess all styles of leadership if they are going to be successful with any organization.
Leadership Self-Assessment The definition of leadership is, “the process of influencing people to accomplish goals,” (Huber, 2014, p.4). There are three main leadership styles according to Clark (2004), autocratic, democratic, and free reign. The results of the leadership style survey showed that I have a democratic leading style (Clark, 2004). In democratic leadership, the leader helps to facilitate discussions and the decision making process (Huber, 2014).
Leaders are able to inspire their team and accomplish goals. Having a strong leader standing behind you can push members to do the best they can. In this paper I’m going to discuss the leadership style that I possess. I will also describe what leadership and management theories that align with my leadership style. Finally, I will discuss the type of work environment I create, based upon my leadership style and three key actions or behaviors I demonstrate to be a successful leader.
The way in which a leader selects their style of leadership is predominantly motivated by their underlying priorities and motives concerning the position at hand. These priorities are linked to the goals that the leader themselves wishes to accomplish in their position, but are often influenced by a variety of factors that are derived from two main concerns, the overall well-being of the institution under the leader’s administration and the approval of the people within that institution. The relationship between public approval and the well-being of the institution is often dichotomous in nature, which results in the leader having to make decisions that gravitate towards one side of the spectrum. This conflict between what is good for the institution
If people aren't optimistic, they're not going to make the sacrifices and do the work required to turn things around. It's a remarkably humble leadership style. To understand the leadership analysis at Ford, we will have to first understand the various types of leadership styles. 1. Autocratic Leadership: The autocratic leadership style allows managers to make decisions alone without the input of others.
The organizational factors include: flexibility, responsibility, standards, rewards, clarity, and commitment. The research shows that the coercive and pacesetting styles have a negative correlations on organizational climate while the other four styles have a positive impact. Thus, except for unusual circumstances where coercive and pacesetting styles might be appropriate, leaders should normally use a combination of the authoritative, affiliative, democratic and coaching styles to achieve success. The best leaders will sense from their emotional intelligence when to use each of these styles. If you are an aspiring leader or a leader who wants to get to the next level of leadership excellence, Goleman’s article is a great primer on how to effectively use different leadership
Leadership and management are both skills that can be very useful in everyday situations as well as career areas; especially the health care field. Leadership can be seen as more of a natural characteristic where management can be used in a more professional manner such as a workplace. Some characteristics that a leader possesses are confidence, optimism, passion, courage, and integrity. Managers on the other hand, possess characteristics that are more authoritative, but it can be said that there are many qualities that intercept between both leadership and management. After completing the modules, it has become clear to me that there are areas within leadership and management that I excel in as well as areas within the concept that I can
2.2 Different types of leadership styles Leadership plays a vital role in order for an organization to succeed, by effectively managing and controlling employees the type of leadership style. The most universal leadership styles concern transactional, transformational, laissez-faire, democratic and authoritative. These styles are widely applied in different organizations
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
This model states that in this 21st century, it is impossible to rely on one management style to fit all situations (Educational-business-articles.com, 2016). In other words managers and leaders must be flexible, in order to get the best result out of their teams and individuals. In addition, this theory allows management and leadership to be able to identify and accurately diagnose the situation and vary employees’ behavior accordingly to the situation (Yukl and Mahsud, 2010). This will enable management and leadership at CIBCFCIB to select appropriate types of leadership behavior for each type of situation. Moreover, another impact that this theory has on organizational strategy whereby Charismatic leaders at CIBCFCIB can minimize various types of behaviour by increasing competent employees.
(2003) believed that there are five C’s of leadership and these five Cs can play a vital role in developing most effective, efficient and proficient leaders. These five Cs are: character, commitment, connectedness, compassion and confidence. Oshagbemi and Ocholi (2006) grouped managers on the bases of their leadership styles and day to day behavior. Categorization is done into three groups: practical leaders, unity leaders and uncaring leaders. The results concluded that every leader is relatively affective but it can be expected that practical and unity leaders could do even better than uncaring leaders.
Different scholars identified various kinds of leadership styles that affect the job performance, satisfaction and learning and development of subordinates. Warrick, D.D (1981) cited that there are no doubt variables other than a leader’s style that affect employee performance and development but leadership style plays a significant role and not to be underestimated. An awareness of leadership styles and their consequences are very important because it may either facilitate or inhabit skill development. The major theories on leadership are the traits, leadership styles and contingency theories.
• AN EVALUATION OF LEADERSHIP THEORIES Leadership Hypothesi s (An assessment): The hypothesis of leadership have increased over the last decade and results in diverse concepts. The subject matter of these is to identify the feature which describes a leader. The well known theories are; Great Man Hypothesis (1840):
There are many different type of Leadership styles. Different types of leadership styles exist in work environments. ● Laissez-Faire- A laissez-faire leader does not give direct supervision of employees and does not provide regular feedback to those under his supervision.
If the behavior theory can identify the key determinants of leadership, people can actually train to become a leader. This is the premise of the management development plan. There are many different types of behavioural leadership styles. Each style suggests that the leadership role is based on the leaders’ concern for the people being led and the level of achievement that needs to be
