Junior high and high school is a place where students try to fit in. Students are trying to know themselves, they don't really know most of the time what is their identity. Sometimes they don't speak out their ideas because they are afraid of the opinions of their classmates or friends. It gets more difficult if they are trying to communicate in a second language.
I work with students learning English as a second language. For kids, it is difficult to communicate being afraid of mistakes and being the mock of the class. So, to make them interact and motivate them, I change the learning plan into a kind of communication class.

Normally speak in front of people make them nervous, they forget what to say, or they are building sentences very slow. So, when they have the time to practice before recording, they can improve by themselves, correct mistakes, hear their pronunciation, watch their attitude, get a better presentation and encourage self-learning.
They have to investigate vocabulary by their own, to search for ideas to write content, compare with other videos, watch tutorials… It is a kind of self-learning. Of course, as a teacher this comes up with a lot of work because even when they are working by themselves you are the guide; supporting, motivating and encouraging, remember them how skilled they are. Youngsters are so creative. In this way, the vocabulary they learn is about things they use every day, they learn phrases and they learn of course about the topic they are investigating.
Sometimes kids are very shy, so they don't speak in class or they do it almost with no volume. In a normal or traditional ESL class, kids develop language in a limited poor way. A good approach to make them speak is through this activity. They speak in a self-controlled environment, using a microphone, they choose settings, dialogs, and the topic. In the classroom, the teacher will ask what the students want to do and therefore the students will tell the teachers what they want. Or if they are playing with their friend, they will talk with them about whatever. One of their favorite times while I am there is music time. The students like to listen to frozen and they all know the songs. So, they will sing as loud as they can as the music plays.
Explain how play and activities are used to support the development of speech, language and communication. Children should be exposed to various opportunities for speaking and listening to encourage their curiosity and promote their communicative literacy. Having limited attention span it is very difficult to engage them in any activity for longer period. It is important to conduct different activities like games, role play, puppets, storytelling, listening and sing-along, which engages them physically, mentally and support language development. Introduction In high school, students are very outgoing and opinionated. They believe that their rights are just as equal to adults. Even though the Fourteenth Amendment connected the bridge between the school and student rights with the results of Brown v. Board of Education, it is the First Amendment that the students express more of at the high school level. During their adolescent years the students voice more opinions, express their desires, and tend to rebel.
Explain the reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected pattern: The reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected patters is due to them maybe having a disability, emotional influences, physical influences, environmental influences, cultural influences, social influences, learning needs and communication skills. Children with disabilities require a lot more support than those without a disability in order to help them develop their skills and become more independent. Disabilities can affect more than one area of a child’s development depending on what disability they have and what support is available in order to help improve the child’s needs etc. Emotionally children are affected due to them maybe having signs of depression where they are quiet than the rest of the children and they shy away from joining in with different activities and getting involved with other children.
Make sure to also challenge the children instead of making everything too easy for them. Keeping things that will interest the children so that they will come into class and want to learn. Make it exciting for them to want to learn is an important thing to do in my opinion. Give them opportunities to express how they feel or what they’re thinking. Divide the interests into groups of different play areas.
In James W. Loewen’s “The Land of Opportunity,” he states that social class affects the way children are raised. He discusses the inequality in today’s society and how the textbooks in high school do not give any social class information. The students in today’s time are not taught everything they should be taught. He states that your family’s wealth is what makes up your future. Loewen discusses that people with more money can study for the SATs more productively and get a better score than someone who has less money.
If the teacher speaks every time, students won’t learn anything because we are telling them how to solve and work on the word problem. If the students work and we assist them through question, they will understand how to solve the problem. In my first year of teaching, I was talking and giving students everything they needed to know. In this new school year, I will take my students and use the real world activities. For example: Let the students walk around and use the materials to measure the things they see in their campus.
You need to consider using a language they can understand. Talk about familiar topics. Engaging them as much as you can. Share books, rhymes and stories.
The main differences between communicating with adults, children or young people is by using language what they can understand or what is age appropriate. Don’t use language unless you know that the body you are speaking to fully understands what you are saying. With children or young people you will have to communicate to them on a level that they understand. Listening to a child when they are communicating back to you. By listening this will make a child feel valued and heard.

For children and young people to develop positive relationships it is crucial for adults to model effective communication in the classroom. As a teacher or teaching assistant, you have the platform to facilitate social learning and lead by example. One of the main reasons why effective communication is important, is because it makes children feel happy and comfortable at school, and in your presence. Not only will this help children to thrive in a learning environment, but will also filter through to their lives at home and outside of school.
Most high school students are subject to an everyday routine consisting of having classes all day, having to talk to teachers and go to extracurricular activities just to go home to study and sleep. If you have ever watched high school musical growing up you may have thought about what high school was really going to be like when you get there. Kids wonder if it will be similar to the movie or if it will be completely different than they thought. High school and high school musical have their similarities originating from everyday life when in reality they differ in the reality of students, teachers, classes, sports and musicals. High school students are everyday typical teenagers, their attention is stuck on their phone, and friends for the most part.
Oral language is an important and necessary cognitive developmental step in literacy. People, children as well as adults, adults use oral language on a daily basis. People use oral language as their primary form of communication. Children learn oral language before they learn written language. According to our text book, “Teaching Children to Read: The Teacher Makes the Difference” by Reutzel and Cooter there are four oral language developmental theories.
Inclusion is vital in helping to provide quality education for SEN pupils. “above all, inclusion is about a philosophy of acceptance where all pupils are valued and treated with respect” (Carrington & Elkins, 2002). Inclusion is often thought to be the location of your education but is more often than not about the quality of one’s education. The location has little to do with inclusion but more to do with where you feel you belong, some SEN children feel they cannot truly belong in a large mainstream school (Campbell, 2005). Sociological perspectives of inclusion often emphasis equality, respect, participation in decision making, rights, and collective belonging.
