Reflection 1
Research has shown literacy is one of the most important but most complex subject taught within the education system (Bickart &Dodge, 1999). However despite it’s complexity it is still one of the most important subject, because the lack of literacy skills affect all other subject area. “Language is critical for learning across the curriculum” (Copple, Bredekamp, Koralek &Charner, 2013). Language is important because language has various function, it works as expression for feeling, as mediator in thought and it helps to provide mental representation (Copple, Bredekamp, Koralek &Charner, 2013). It is also proven that language develop rapidly during the early childhood years (Copple, Bredekamp, Koralek &Charner, 2013). By age 1 children say their first words and by 3 years children learn 300 to 1000 words; This is how rapid language is learnt (Gorden & Browne,2013). It is for all these reason us as early childhood educators must take advantage of this crucial time period where children are like sponge they soak in all information and concept.

Books can be used for various reason and can be used to teach various concept. Books can be used for entertainment, fostering the preservation of knowledge, understanding the formal elements of books and understanding self and humanity (Norton & Norton, 2011). Books can help children develop in all domain it can help with cognitive because they learn mental concept. It help develop physical through fine motor by turning page and lastly, social emotional, by sharing and relating to feeling, self-regulation and self-expression. People progresses by learning and experiencing. Without books and printed materials, there wouldn’t be any materials to learn from except with experience. Not everyone has the same experience so most won’t be able to make connections with other people’s ideas. Books allow people to write down their experience and can be shared with many people. Most people understand more from reading visually than listening.
Books about culture, religions, disabilities etc can be a way of showing a group of children different elements to each child’s life & the differences between individuals. This can help any confusion children have & can help prepare them for future situations they may come
Throughout Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury switches the roles of Montag, the main character throughout the novel. Montag was a fireman, who burned books,and witnessed an event as a fireman that changed his life forever. He lives in a society that looks down upon books, and discourages people to keep them. If he or she is found with books, they will pay the price for which they risked. Due to Montag experiencing certain events, and meeting influential characters throughout the novel, his perspective of the society he lives in changes throughout the novel.
Fiction Books How do you think your life would be without books? Just think about it for a minute. No books, that means no good story telling, no creativity, electronics all day, and more. Well, that might happen if all the fiction books get dropped. The school board does not think fiction books are apart of the curriculum anymore.
Doctor Seuss once said: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." To paraphrase the quote, it is saying that books are the perfect source of knowledge and they open up many doors in the future. People who read books are constantly enhancing their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. When reading, individuals are exposed to new ideas, concepts, and perspectives that can broaden their understanding of the world and improve their ability to analyze complex issues.

Books can create portals to different life experiences and encourage reading. A few schools and libraries have challenged the educational value of some books, however, therefore leading them to eventually be prohibited in a particular place. Each reason may be different depending on the book and the location of the exclusions. Books are icons of literature and their value should outshine the occasionally offensive topic. Be that as it may, there are multiple reasons why books should be taught and included in a curriculum.
Books come with a variety of information whether helpful or entertaining. Many times books teach readers along with those who seek to gain knowledge. Ralph Waldo Emerson stated, "Books are the best of things, well used; abused, among the worst. " The basic meaning behind his wise words include the idea that books bring knowledge and keep history along with important information such as science, culture, art, and other ideals being the cornerstone for generations now and to come to learn from the past.
Oral language is an important and necessary cognitive developmental step in literacy. People, children as well as adults, adults use oral language on a daily basis. People use oral language as their primary form of communication. Children learn oral language before they learn written language. According to our text book, “Teaching Children to Read: The Teacher Makes the Difference” by Reutzel and Cooter there are four oral language developmental theories.
Children try to learn sounds and to read words. So it will help to find words and they will begin to improve their language. To conclude, in my report I would like to say that big book is very effective tool for children in the classroom. It provides an essential link between learning and play which makes them wonderful teaching tool of children in the classroom.
Teachers can also learn about a childs’ experience and offer help and attention. Literacy is very important in every aspect of a person’s life, a teacher in the foundation phase should emphasize this and help their skills and literacies develop
From the earlier stages of development, children learn to understand other people by tone, facial expressions, and gestures. Although these are important aspects to communication if a child is only using gestures to communicate and not words, then there might be a difficulty in language development. On average “Children will typically be able to say 50 words by the time they reach 2 years. At this age, they will start to put short two-word sentences together. Language learning increases dramatically and by three years children are using three to four-word sentences and can be easily understood by familiar adults.
Books have been used by people through centuries, the knowledge we have gained now would have been impossible without books (Allegro, 2014). There are 175 million adolescents in the world are can't read on the internet due to lacking any access to it (Das, 2015). That concludes that books are still the primary tool for knowledge acquisition.
