The Importance of Living Healthy for Children

Diseases and health problems are on the rise all over the world. In the past, health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity were more common in older people; however, it is becoming more and more common in children. A healthy lifestyle at a young age is crucial for a child’s mental and physical development. Declining health is becoming widespread among children; therefore, proper education on living a healthy lifestyle is crucial.
Proper nutrition is essential to living a healthy lifestyle and is especially important for the growth and development of a child. According to the article “The Risks of Poor Nutrition,” poor eating habits can affect the way a body absorbs nutrients, including “energy (or kilojoules), protein, carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals as well as fiber and fluid” (The Risks). Other health problems that have been linked to poor nutrition include stress, anxiety, and tiredness (The Risks). These factors can dramatically hinder a child’s growth process and development. Furthermore, it is not enough to trust what the food industry claims to be healthy. It is imperative to do research on what foods are actually healthy and beneficial to a growing a child, and what foods might be harmful.
