This course hasn’t influenced my career plans, but it has enhanced how I manage my projects and interact with colleagues on a daily basis. Furthermore, this class and all of my future classes will really be useful as I retire and become a self-employed government contractor. Reading about companies like Lincoln Electric, and how well they manage their employees and business inspires me to incorporate many of those techniques into my own company vision and mission. I’m using more critical thinking in my day-to-day activities and decision making. Critical thinking forces me to slow down and make better decisions.

The primary strength of this book is how much organizational theory has largely sanitized the notion of evil, also creating more inherent characteristics of modern organizations that allows evil to be administratively sanitized, accepted as rational and proper in terms of efficiency and the masking may be inadvertent. Abraham Zaleznik in his article, “Managers and Leaders: Are They Different?” (1977) puts forth a claim that in every aspect of personality and reaction to certain events, managers and leaders are fundamentally different from each other. In this paper, I shall summarize Zaleznik’s argument and subsequently his reasons and evidences to make such a claim. To build on his main claim, Zaleznik at first creates a fine line between managers and leaders based on their personalities.
