Metabolism is the amount of energy (calories)

your body burns to maintain itself. Whether you are eating, drinking, sleeping, cleaning or doing any household chores; your body is constantly burning calories as you keep active.

Metabolism is affected by your body composition.
By body composition, it means the amount of muscle you have versus the amount of fat.
Muscle burn more calories to maintain it activity than fat. So people who are more muscular with lower percentage of body fat have a higher metabolism than people that are less muscular.
