In our world, we have been naturally simplifying the way we do things. Entrepreneurs and architects have been guiding us all on the route to minimalism. Social media is playing a big part in spreading minimalism among individuals. Many Facebook groups are dedicated to encouraging minimalists living in different communities to meet up and share ideas and experiences. Minimalism is not just living with enough things to fit in a backpack, to have no car, and to live in a remote area with a hard-to-pronounce name. But it’s much simpler than that, in fact, it is nothing but simple. Minimalism is an effortless lifestyle that is changing many people 's lives, and it is not too hard to pursue. It turned into a website about their journeys and advice about becoming a minimalist. They both discovered during rough times in their lives but in two different ways. Joshua Millburn went through a divorce and his mother 's death all within the same month. While moving things out of his mother’s house, he noticed how much stuff she had. Things she had held onto for so long as memories were just there to never be looked at and were taking up space. He decided to sell everything and took only a few sentimental things. He decided that this already lifted a huge weight off his shoulder, so he decided to do the same with his stuff. He finally felt carefree and immediately less stressed. This showed in his work ethic and his life became much better (Millburn). Ryan, on the other hand, had a problem with money. He thought that once he became rich, he would be happy. So he set goals for himself to become rich and no matter how many fancy cars he had, how big his house was, or how many designer clothes he had, he wasn 't happy. One day he had lunch with his friend Joshua who had just gone through a really hard time, yet he looked super happy. Joshua explained to Ryan the idea of minimalism and he was intrigued right away, so they quickly got started. One must learn before embarking on this journey to acknowledge important things in life. One can have a better life when relying and focusing on the more compassionate things. A good way to start is to take away anything that hasn’t been used in the last three weeks and isn 't going to be used in the next three weeks. This should leave a small fraction of what was there before. Everything else could be given away to people that would need it more. To be a minimalist, shopping or buying things is not forbidden. As long as the things being bought gives joy to its buyer. One does not need to own a few things but needs to own the things that serve a reasonable purpose. Another way to get rid of things is whenever something is bought, something is given away. Minimalist Joshua Millburn explains his method by saying “Now before I spend money I ask myself one question: Is this worth my freedom… am I going to get more value from the thing I’m about to purchase, or am I going to get more value for my freedom” (Millburn, Everything That Remains)?
