Communicating Well Nonverbally:
I have found that nonverbal communication is often more important than verbal communication. Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication are both essential skills in a leadership role (Bellou & Gkorezis, 2016). Individuals can easily pick up on a speaker’s true feelings and emotions just by facial expressions and/or body language that the speaker displays (Evenson, 2012). There are many elements of my job that cause aggravation but it is very important that my facial expressions and body language due not show my true feelings about certain situations. There are many situations throughout each work day that I have to control my eye rolls or huffs-and-puffs. If I allowed my co-workers to see how I really felt about certain situations they might interpret that as me not working well with others or maintaining a professional image in the workplace. Controlling my nonverbal communication is essential to maintaining my positive relationship with other employees. Individuals are employed to fulfill our job responsibilities. Sometimes those responsibilities come with moments of aggravation and frustration but, in my opinion, maintaining a professional attitude and appearance are also part of an individual’s responsibilities in the workplace.
