“Participation in sports can help build self-esteem and confidence, can motivate children to excel academically and can help build social skills. Participation also can teach children the benefits of goal-setting and practice” (Davis). Blog Amanda explains how sports provide many life lessons and circumstances that help prepare a kid for adult life. Time management, one example of life lessons, an important ability to uses times productively. This is often learned when handling rigorous school courses and playing a demanding sport such as travel volleyball. Another skill essential to adult life is learning how to respectfully handle emotions and words during frustrating situations. Although not considered a life lesson, staying fit is a byproduct of participating in travel volleyball. I should play competitive travel volleyball next season, because it will prepare me for adult life, such as times management, handling my emotions, and staying active. Playing volleyball in such situations provides a valuable skill to learn how to cope with my emotions. Unfair referee calls, being substituted out, not playing a full set or game, making repeated mistakes, and unpleasant teammates all can mess with a normal persons emotions. Learning how to handle my words in a respectfully way, not having a negative attitude or body language later on will pay off. Travel volleyball my growth and knowledge can expand, preparing me for adult life. By already knowing how body and speech affect others when a situation at work will keep me from embarrassment. The way most tournaments work, I would miss church where the most benefitting life lessons are taught. However, handling emotions in such situations cannot always be taught in church.
