Play is a justifiable right of childhood, representing an important aspect of children’s physical, intellectual and social development. Play is one of the most important means by which children learn. Children think, create, imagine, communicate, make choices, solve problems, take risks, build physical skills and take on a variety of roles as they interact socially. Play supports learning, promotes language and social development, and broadens imaginations and creativity in children and adults. Children who learn a healthy variety of play skills feel confident, have achievements, make friends and learn non-violent ways to interact with others. Children can overcome their fears by mastering the world around them through play. By overcoming their fears, children are able to build their confidence and resilience which they will need as they grow older. With having more confidence in themselves, children will have the ability to learn to play and work in groups, to share with others, to negotiate and compromise issues, and to resolve conflicts that arise, which helps with future challenges.
