CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION This chapter discusses the introduction of the study containing background of the study, problem of the study, objectives of the study and definition of key terms 1.1 Background of the Study Debate is a discussion about an issue or problem. The formal debate consists of two sides: one supporting the issue and one that opposes it. “Debating involves... [parties] in expressing their opinions from two different perspectives with the goal of contradicting each other’s arguments” (Chang & Cho, 2010 p,1). Thus, debate is an activity of conveying arguments between two or more parties, either individually or in groups, in context and in decisions (Tarigan, 1990 p, 120). Based on Dipodjojo (1982 p.59) debate is an oral communication …show more content…

The Jefferson v. Hamilton debate was about problems that had occurred during the 1790s. The outcome of the debate would determine who became president, in this case Jefferson won. Alexander Hamilton led the federalists, and Thomas Jefferson led the Republicans. The Federalists represented the trade and problems that occurred when they progressed into the world. They believed that they could be advanced only by a strong central government of people that were capable of establishing a solution.
Sophie Goldenberg Honors Civics Electoral College DBQ Should the Electoral College be Repealed or Remain as is? On every first Tuesday in November of every fourth year, many Americans go to the polls to vote for their favorite candidate. Little do they know that they are actually voting for electors who then go vote for the president. This process is called the Electoral College.
The Democratic Debate on Tuesday, October 13 was set to be a great Las Vegas show. It was doubtful that this debate would be anywhere near as fun to watch as the Republican debate with it’s over the top characters Trump, Fiorina, Christie and Bush but it did give an important idea where these particular candidates stand on issues that worry the everyday American. Anderson Cooper introduced the candidates as they took the stage - Chafee, O’Malley, Clinton, Sanders, and Webb. As the candidates introduced themselves and Cooper starts the debate with an awesome question to Clinton, “Will you say anything to get elected?” Clinton explains that any changes in her positions have more to do with learning more about the issues and that as a progressive candidate she likes to get things done.
Based off the notes i took and looking at the numbers over and over, I have come to the conclusion that the election between G.W. Bush and Al Gore was not legitimate. If they did a recount in all the counties in Florida and finished on time then it would have easily shown that Al Gore was the true winner and should have been president of the United States. All that G.W. Bush did was help and make his people stop Al Gore from recounting all his votes. campaign was precisely to stop the recount 's. Overall, I thought that there was no legitimacy in the election what so ever. It was tampered with and rigged from the beginning.
People have different views on what success really means. Some say success is based on money or fame. If you have a lot of money or fame you're "definitely" successful. Others say success is based on your fulfillment and overall happiness in your life. Alfred Brooks, the protagonist in the novel
For the 2016 presidential election I will be eighteen years old, so I plan to vote for Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders seems like a good candidate to be elected as the new president of the United States because he cares about us the people. A few reasons why Bernie Sanders would make an excellent president are because he plans to make college free, open work opportunities, and give everyone a reasonable work wage with those new jobs. However, the most important reason for me as a woman would be Bernie’s proposal to fight for women’s rights.
We live in a world where the communication is the foundation for sharing information between people and debating is a formal way of communicating. Debating on the “Insurance policies obtained through the Affordable Care Act should be replaced by High Deductible Health Plans paired with tax free Health Savings Accounts” was challenging in many ways. My team was on the con side. From the beginning, all members of the team agreed that the Affordable Care Act is a controversial and complicated topic, however, ACA has made a number of positive changes to the health care system and increased access to health care services. In addition, the ACA has a tremendous impact not just on patients, but also on health care providers and workers.
Ratifying the American Constitution in 1788, was the start of creating an effective national government where more issues arise especially with the Founding Fathers. They believed to govern unified people that possessed virtue and natural aristocracy would govern the country in the public’s interest. However, that did not happen automatically due to the illogicality views of not only the Founding Fathers but the state representatives. There were different opinions on the virtue of men and women, women were supposedly more domestic and men were sophisticated in public. One of the biggest arguments between the Founding Fathers is how the government is run; Republican is supporting a French radical republicanism or Federalists pro-commerce a democracy.
In order to effectively develop an argument, one must use a variety of strategies in order to persuade their audience. These strategies could be things like new forms of syntax, various rhetorical strategies, or even just fancy language. This debate in particular is about whether or not the United States should support a universal health care plan. One side believes that universal healthcare plan will benefit Americans overall because many individuals cannot afford Healthcare. On the other hand, people believe that America is not ready to take on all the responsibility of upholding healthcare for every citizen.
The first amendment may seem like something that is generally understood among all of those who use it, but this may not be the case. While most citizens of the United States of America would certainly say that they understand and can comprehend what the first amendment means, an underlying lack of knowledge, upon what is presumed to be the most important of all the amendments, can still be discovered. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The specific piece of the first amendment that is particularly important
To begin, debate is not just to argue about a topic but its purpose is to widen our mind. According to Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education, “debate is not just one of the “great equalizers” for minority achievement and educational opportunity, but also a best practice to produce dynamic Americans proficient in the 4 “Cs” of 21st century skills—critical thinking, communication, collaboration,

America is a big superpower, a force to be reckoned with, and a corporate country. America is built upon freedom and money just like anywhere else. But with the way I think that were going, that’s the only thing America will be in the future. And the American dollar will be worth less and less, and the economy will crash more and more. Like I said earlier America is a corporate country based upon cash.
I envision the future America as a sanctuary that will protect and love the citizens of this country more than it is shown in the society of today. I imagine that the violence and chaos that is present today will eventually be defeated if we can conquer it with compassion and understanding. When we provide good work ethics along with focus, America will be built up the way it was intended to be. The thirty-third president of the United States, Harry S. Truman, stated, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”
I. Introduction Donald Trump: American Hero or Villain? For many Americans, Trump is seen as the long-awaited saviour of the nation. Others see him as the man to start World War III.
