Teachers are considered to be the second parents of many students at a school. They are the catalyst of change for the betterment and achievement of a quality education. In their hands lie the success of every student. They are vested the responsibility to uplift the academic and non-academic performances of every student. Their main task is to hone students’ skills so that each of them will become competent and globally qualified. One of these skills to be taught and be developed by the teachers are the learners’ reading skills. According to Mahfoodh, 2007, proficient readers are those who are able to gain understanding on any written statements. Whatever text or printed materials were used as long as the reader is capable enough to fully understand what he/she has read then that reader is proficient. Students must be therefore, from the very beginning be taught of different skills in reading so that sooner or later, they will find it easy to understand the content of any particular reading material and be able to get ideas and share their thoughts basing on what they have read. The effective reader is the only ones who could really get the point or gist of any reading materials. Basically, they are those who have reading skills and know how to use them effectively. According to the study conducted by Flora Debora Floris and Marsha Divina, 2011, when they conducted a study on the batch 2003 students on reading skills, they have found out that students of batch 2003 studying at an English Department of a private university in Surabaya Indonesia has different difficulties in acquiring the skills in reading.
