The importance of the individual differences can more be felt in second language acquisition and use than in our native language. The studies have revealed that the most eye-catching personality dimension attracting and prompting researchers’ focus in the L2 field has always been extroversion/introversion (Dorneyei, 2005). Acquiring a second language is a complicated task which will be influenced by linguistic and non-linguistic factors (Gass & Selinker, 2001).
The link between the personality traits and educational performance has been explored progressively. Typically, these kinds of studies have examined the correlations between personality and evaluations of school or university, such as final exam or continuous assessment (Chamorro-Premuzik, …show more content…

Over the last twenty years the importance of using English for communicative purpose has been revealed and steadily the practice of English teaching has been growing which reveals that the oral proficiency matter is of great importance for communicative purpose ( Luchini, 2007). There is a general belief supporting the idea that extroverts who have higher openness compared with introverts are more open to social and cultural behaviors which leads to their motivation and success towards SLA.
Still there is no evidence to argue that one certain personality trait can achieve overall success in SLA, which means that certain personality traits have proved to do some tasks better than the others. But what is seen is a failure of some studies in regards with the positive correlation between outgoingness and language proficiency. Naiman et al (1978) cited in Kezwer (1987) in his research on high school French students concluded that there is no outstanding correlation between extroversion and successful language acquisition. Also Herzig and colleagues conducted a research on west German high school students which again showed no significant correlation between the extroversion and language learning
