Sex is one of the most popular, yet secretive topics around the world, but especially within Western cultures. Sex is a commodity, an advertisement, a sacred vow, a private conversation, and so much more. Sex is used for both empowerment and oppression. When discussing sex, people get uncomfortable and confused. People are embarrassed to talk about what is used to engage our attention, attract our money, and advertise our insecurities. However, for me, sex is an everyday topic of discussion. I love sex. I love talking about sex. But most importantly, I love educating others about sex. These mathematical implications about sexual violence are biased and rarely accurate. The term ‘sexual violence’ is an umbrella term for six categories; sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, sexual intimidation, relationship violence, and stalking. Sexual assault is categorized as either non-consensual intercourse, or non-consensual touching. Sexual exploitation is the solicitation, or distribution of private, sexual information, photos, and etc. The most common form of sexual exploitation is non-consensually sharing sexually explicit images or videos. Sexual harassment is where a hostile environment is created or when a “quid pro quo” arrangement is in place; where someone either gets something for engaging in a sexual behavior or they are punished for not engaging in a sexual behavior. Most people think about this in terms of the workplace, but it can also occur in a classroom, club, or any other group. Sexual intimidation covers a range of behaviors from threatening to sexually assault someone, it overlaps with stalking, and also includes indecent exposure or “flashing.” Relationship violence is statistically the most common form of sexual violence on college campuses. It can encompass a wide range of behaviors including emotional, physical, verbal, or financial abuse between people who are or were in a relationship, either romantic, sexual, and/or platonic. Delegating is defined as asking others for help, or positioning others to perform certain tasks such as calling 911. Distracting is creating a distraction to diffuse an unsafe situation and help move people out of harm's way. Delaying is talking to someone after the fact to educate, check in, or report. Finally, directing is telling someone directly that their words or actions are not acceptable. An individual can intervene directly without being confrontational or escalating a situation.
